One of my units has a leak and we’ve been limping along with freon refills for last few years. Got 20 years out of it and decided to bite the bullet on a new unit last week. Supposed to be installed this week. Knock on wood, the smaller upstairs unit is still running like a champ and no leaks.

Just replaced my HVAC today. It was going to be 4 months to get a new evaporator core for the old one. The new one cost twice as much as the old one. Plus the installers told me the price of freon has gone up 600% compared to two years ago.

I was worried about the upstairs unit(18 yrs old) at my place so I went ahead & had a new one put in last month. It may be new, but still struggles with these constant 102-106 temps, go figure. Btw, ac units ain't gettin any cheaper, another reason I decided to buy now

As I am sidelined by knee replacement this season, I am repeating as I understand situations.
Equipment is in short supply. Many common sizes of both residential and commercial units have availability dates of mid September. The EPA declared war on current refrigerants years ago. This is causing factories to retool to "greener refrigerant ". This will also require contracts to purchase new tools, again.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

Are you saying they are already trying to get rid of R-410 in new AC units?

That is current plan. Last I read R454B will get nod. Date is set for next year, but with supply shortages as they are, roll out date may change.

Yes the start of the phase out of 410A begins next January. At this time there isn’t a clear consensus on the new refrigerant as there was with 410A. I have heard that Carrier is going with one refrigerant. Trane another, and Daikin another R-454B is one of the refrigerants I have heard mentioned but who knows at this point. The last I checked my gauges aren’t set up for R-454B.

Yes R410a is already slated to be discontinued in 'new' unit use and virgin production by 2023. But will be available for many years afterward for service concerns.

R-32, R-454b, and R-466a would all be suitable 'new' refrigerants but R-454B has the lowest GWP among those so will likely be the winner.

I have 3 capacitors for each of my 3 units (they all take different ones). Let me know if anyone gets in trouble within driving distance and I'll see if I have a match

The different refrigerants for different companies is going to be a nightmare.

I probably should order one now. My Sales guy said winter would be the best time to buy If I could wait. OR, if my old AC can wait.
