funny story...I was a delivery driver before and during the change over to these systems. I lived in town and did not know about these but delivered country routes. In the hot summer I used to enjoy walking through the sprinklers when delivering...…that ended pretty quickly! I think I would keep that to myself.

What Roll-Tide said. I took the course in Denton, and got certified. Turned in my paperwork to the city of Oak Point every three months.

Under current State changes in the law, it is now possible for the homeowner to take a certification course on their particular brand of septic system and to perform the maintenance themselves. Check with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality or visit them at www.tceq.state.tx.us.While that's true for anybody rural, if you're in a municipality they can (and my town did) adopt local rules blocking homeowner maintenance (and/or escalating requirements to also be a 'TCEQ registered maintenance provider' ). Glad we got out of there, now rural, and on trouble/Maintenace free conventional system (sandy soils, 1000+ ft of lines, and with elevation, no trees nearby)

Had a septic at the lake house. The 15 years we owned it, there was never an issue. I lived in it full time 7 years, my mom lived there another 7 years full time. Never had an issue whether it rained, flooded, no matter how much laundry I did, or how many people were there and showered. Granted, the house was previously owned by Phil Burleson (the attorney for Jack Ruby and Cullen Davis) and apparently he made some upgrades. The guest house had its own septic tank, but shared lateral lines with the main house and its tanks (gray water and black water tanks), and the washing machine also had its own tank with black and gray water separation. Overkill? I guess, but I loved it. We recently sold the house and I hope the new owners love the house as much as we did. The house also had separate cutoffs on the main line for every faucet in the house and all outside faucets. Made plumbing repairs easy.
Only maintenance we needed was a packet of yeast down the toilet closest to the tank once a month and maybe some sugar. Nothing special.

The house I sold in Melissa, the conventional septic system was installed in 1987. In 19 years, I had the tanks cleaned twice, and that was just for maintenance purposes. Zero trouble out of it, ever.

When we bought our house at Lake Graham, the previous owner told us that they always had trouble with the septic system. Well the house was built in 1976 and the system has 2 lateral lines. Guess what they planted a non-bearing Mulberry tree between the 2 lines about 30 feet from the tank. No wonder they had trouble. We got rid of the tree, dug up all the roots and haven’t had a problem since.

The town I live in does not require inspections and I don't use chlorine. There is no real need for me to use chlorine. The heart of the aerobic system is the air pump. If it is working properly and your solid tanks are not full the water coming out of your sprinklers will be fine. They make bleach drip tubes so that you can use bleach instead of chlorine. Maintaining an aerobic system is not rocket science.
Rockwall/Rockwall County requires both.
