That sucks,,, I hope everyone stays safe and y’all’s equipment was left untouched…. I’m not sure of the liability of the welder but anyone dumb enough to weld in those conditions and not have a spotter/water truck on site is a dumb [censored] and should be held responsible in some way.

Prayers up for those involved and for some relief. We had a wildfire last Sept that was started when a shredder hit a flint rock and it was very windy/dry. The welder should have known better, but I could see him being put under pressure by a landowner to get the job finished. Still should have had all the things needed on site to safely do the job. Seen it a fire get started with all the water truck and spotter in place. We need to move a deer blind but waiting on enough rain to move it. Needing a welder to cut it loose and then weld it back in place. With this weekend I hope people visiting the land or leases do not have open fires or use fireworks. Going to be a long stressful weekend if it is windy.

My guys who actually have hay stored are extremely worried about the upcoming holiday weekend. From past experiences, they should be.

We insure thousands of round bales stored in barns, in fields and wherever. There is a lot of development property within and just outside of the city limits where hay is grown to preserve ag exemptions. We have a spot to watch the New Barnflies fireworks on the special 4th of July holiday. Our vantage point also allows us to see the aerial displays in Seguin, McQueeney, Randolph, Marion and other places. The city provided displays are not the issue. It's the Ricky Bobby's showing off their impressive spending power, purchasing large fireworks and then firing them off where not safe.
I watch the "show" with real mixed feelings. Mostly good people trying to celebrate what is one of our nation's greatest holidays. but not being able to mitigate the collateral damage which may result.

Just heard that it has grown to 11,000 acres and was only 12% contained. Hope the wind dies down today and they get ahold of it. Also hope a storm will build out in the gulf and make its way to central and west TX and just dump rain.

Other than the Valley and northeast Texas, I am surprised any other counties would sell fireworks. But this doesn't stop people from driving to other counties to buy them. I would think that a burn ban would also mean a fireworks ban, but it appears this isn't necessarily the case. Hoping for rain.

The wind has shifted and now from the northwest. Smoke is filtering in and the strong smell of burning cedar. Hope this helps the effort to control the fire

30+ years ago, a neighbor was burning junk on a windy day. He tossed on an old cotton mattress; the wind caught pieces and they were airborne. It hit my place and others. When I got there, every tree, oak and cedar, was blackened. At that time, I had no structures. It went on and just missed the town of Bowie.
I was gut sick. However, when In the Spring, a huge majority of the oaks came out just fine. Most of the cedars didn’t and I cut an pushed them. The helping hand was the high winds that blew the fire on through without it just sitting. It cleaned up a lot of trash on the ground so, it was a helpful burn. But, I don’t need another helpful one.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

That's got to be terrible, hopefully no one is hurt, that is by far the most important thing. Best of luck to all of y'all !

I was right next to where the fire started on Thursday. My son was playing a baseball tournament at Rocker B ranch west of Graford starting that day. It was in plain sight only a couple miles away from the field he was playing on. By Friday night, they cancelled the rest of the tournament after it got within a mile of the ranch complex. Huge billowing smoke clouds and the flames were really visible at night.
Conditions were terrible. Incredibly hot, dry, and windy...I hope there's rain sometime soon or property will get destroyed.

My guys who actually have hay stored are extremely worried about the upcoming holiday weekend. From past experiences, they should be. I’d be more worried about ventilation then fireworks. It’s internal combustion time of year. Hay goes boom!!

https://www.weatherforddemocrat.com...fe56444-f3da-11ec-94e8-e3a5489ff0d8.htmlUPDATE: Precipitation aids in Palo Pinto County Fire From their staff reports 4 hours ago. PALO PINTO COUNTY — A light rainfall Sunday evening brought a little relief as fire crews continue to battle the Dempsey Fire in Palo Pinto County. As of early Monday, the fire was an estimated 11,598 acres and 27% contained, a jump from 18% Sunday night. The cause is still undetermined, per the Texas A&M Forest Service, which has been providing aid along with local fire departments to extinguish the blaze. Increased humidity levels allowed crews the opportunity to make progress in containment as well as address areas of concern in anticipation of the wind shift. The expected wind shift from the northeast caused some increased fire activity in pockets of vegetation interior to containment lines Sunday. Many of these interior hotspots continued to emerge throughout the day, but aviation resources and engine crews were able to mitigate them quickly. Ground resources continue to patrol and conduct mop up operations across the fire area, while dozers work to improve control lines. Farm-to-Market Road 4 is now open, and the town of Graford, which has previously been encouraged to pre-plan for evacuations, has not issued any evacuations at this time. Voluntary evacuations has been issued late Friday, Palo Pinto County Emergency Management Coordinator Mistie Garland said, after the fire, which was more than 3,000 acres at that time, jumped the Brazos River. Mineral Wells Fire/EMS Chief Ryan Dunn said his crews were among responding departments, which also included Hood County, Erath County and Parker County. “It will take some time for containment,” he said Friday. “The land is rough, and fuels are heavy. Hopefully, with air support we will get it contained." The fire was first reported Thursday afternoon approximately 10 miles south of Graford. Garland said early investigation indicated a welder could have sparked the blaze, but she added, “it’s not 100 percent confirmed.” Air traffic continued to be restricted in the mountainous region as firefighting aircraft shuttled water to the flames.
