https://www.foxnews.com/us/texas-boy-dead-hot-car-copsI will never understand why this keeps happening. How the hell can you go three hours without checking on a young child. No potty for these people, lock them up!

As a parent of small kids with terrible short term memory this is something that always worried me, thankfully nothing ever happened. That said at 4 years old my youngest can buckle and most of the way unbuckle herself. My oldest was a little ahead of that and could easily get out of his car seat and car by himself at 3.
At 5 and can’t get out I’m wondering.

It’s my belief that a % of them are on purpose Most of the time it is accidental they forgot and left them in the car which is still inexcusable. Then there are some that leave them in the vehicle intentionally so they do not have to be bothered with them where ever they are going with no intent of them getting harmed by the heat. Then there is a small % that probably leave them in there to die for a variety of reasons like they don't the want monetary responsibility or to be bothered with them anymore!

It's a whacked up world when people are told to leave their cell phones or something else they greatly value in the back seat so they won't forget and leave their kids back there.
This too is one of those things where people don't see themselves as having accountability just because it happened to someone else. Such things have become rampant in our society. Yes, someone claiming "It could happen to anyone" has become the great excuse for so many things.

One of my friends is the best father I know. When his son was around 4 or 5, his wife was unable to take him to daycare so she asked him to take his son. Outside his normal routine. On the way there, he had an emergency call from work. Went right past the daycare and into his work parking lot. Middle of summer. Got halfway to his office when he realized he needed his laptop. Which was next to his son in the back seat.
Could happen to anyone.

At 5 and can’t get out I’m wondering. I'm sure it depends a lot on the seat. My six year old can get in by himself and undo the top buckle, but doesn't have the finger strength to open the bottom one.

I raised 4 kids and will never understand how anyone could forget their kid in a vehicle, or anywhere else. They are literally the most important things in this world. I no comprende.

I don't see how someone does it at home, but I can absolutely see how a change in routine could let it happen driving to work in the morning. Something being important doesn't mean you can't momentarily get distracted and forget.

I think about where my kids are, or what they are doing all day long, every single day. I will never understand how this happens. That being said, a lot of folks don't deserve to have children, and there's a bunch of crappy parents out there, so I am not surprised.

What do you do with the parent who:
1. Leaves their kid in a hot car and the child dies?
2. Lets their kid have access to a gun he finds and shoots his best friend?
Jail OR they feel bad enough as it is, so its all good??

Jail OR they feel bad enough as it is, so its all good?? Complete negligence regardless of circumstances in both scenarios. Jail for both.

It’s my belief that a % of them are on purpose Mine too. The media likes to run any hot car death where there’s a kid that’s already got something wrong with them. For every one you see on the news there’s dozens more where it was just some idiot living on their phone instead of the real world.
