I've read in publications that when you're trying to bow kill a hog the best shot is a quartering away shot. Does this still apply when I'm 15 to 20 feet in a tree? Or am I likely to hit the hogs shield from that angle shooting from above?

Slightly quartering away is THE best shot on a hog.Are you likely to hit the shield, well, yes. To be more exact you're more likely to slice right through it. My son shoots a 45# bow with carbon arrows and 85 grain thunderheads and completly penetrates hogs. What most people fail to realize is that a braodhead will penetrate a pigs hide better than most bullets. If you shoot average weight(55-65#) and use sharp chisel point or cut on contact heads(I dont like mechanicals) you should have no problem , unless you're going after hogzilla.Just remember, a hogs vitals set a little more forward and a little lower than a whitetails.Good Luck

Shot a sow from a tree once at about 15 ft. and about 15 yrds. Aimed for a quartering shot. Hit her in the butt and she run off with my arrow. That's how I got my name.

The best shot is a side shot take out both lungs. QT away shot is better than QTing to.
