It has definitely rubbed on my legs. No rash so far, and I have been riding every day. I think it’s poison sumac that I’m allergic to. When I’m around that stuff, it like jumps on me, don’t think I even need to touch it.

Any time someone knowingly gets into poison ivy or oak, wash off immediately with cold water and Dawn.

I did that two weeks ago, and did not get a rash. And I am super allergic to this stuff.

I never recall having a reaction to poison ivy or oak, but I use the same method if I get exposed.

When I was a kid, every time I went to the doc he said it was Sumac. When I get it, I immediately start feeling it, I do not even need to touch it, just get close to it.

It always takes several days before my system collapses and I get the rash. I’m highly allergic to the crap. The problem for me is the oil gets on everything and you can still get rashes. After camping trips and such I’m just used to having to scrub down every thing I ever touched

Definitely do not use HOT water to wash it off! Been there, done that.
My wife caught it once doing laundry with my work clothes.

Some of it is poison ivy.
I don't think it's producing the irritant yet. Try it in July or August.

Yes - that is definitely PI . When I bought this place, it had PI vines with 4" dia trunks running up some of the 100yo postoak trees!
I'm highly sensitive to the stuff - spent the last 4 years eradicating it from my property - still got some coming up from seeds in places.

Like FiremanJG said - cold water&dawn&washrag and scrub - then repeat - you can't see it but the oil is like axle grease.
After a couple hours exposure the oil will chemically combine with skin-cells, and no amount of scrubbing will stop the rash there if it wasn't effectively removed within couple hours or so, but will help prevent spreading any remaining loose oil elsewhere.
The rash takes 2 to 3 days to develop, so you're not out of the woods yet (if you were just exposed recently).

Yes it is poison oak. Here is the best way to identify it and find out if it is only sumac you are allergic to. Pluck a leaf and get a good look at it. Turn it over in your hands and get a good look at the bottom of the leaves before you throw it down. Now take a whiz before getting back on your bike.

If you have an iPhone and it has the latest update, click on your picture and push the picture up. It will tell you it’s a plant and then touch the plant leaf icon when it comes up. It will tell you what it is.
It’ll do that to animals and trees too.

How do you get rid of it, especially around trees? I have it, but don't want to spray killer around my trees.

This ^^^ Dawn works, but so does any good soap if you scrub. The reaction is from the urushiol in the plant (an oily substance). Scrub like you are trying to get axle grease off of your skin. I'm highly allergic to poison ivy too.

It is tedious.

If it's a big trunk, cut it with a good hand saw. Corona and Stihl make great hand saws that cut on the pull and the push.

If they are small enough, use loppers. Little spray bottle mixed with 4 diesel : 1 Remedy on the stump you just made. Do not get that on the tree you want to keep! Wait until winter and pull them out of the tree, wearing gloves.

And, goats love to eat poison ivy and briar leaves. With I had 300 head right now.
