I would actually pay for someone knowledgeable to take me along to hunt arrowheads. Something I have been fascinated with since I was a kid. Very cool. The stories those things could tel. Amazing.

Wonder how many miles were walked to gather all those? That is a collection to be proud of.

Once you find the first one, or part of one, it gets easier. A big part of it is visualizing how the land was a century or two ago, not the way it looks now. Creeks and rivers change channels, trees grow where there where open areas. It's more about discovering it for yourself than someone "teaching" you. Check the shinny rocks. Do not look for an arrowhead, look for parts of one, because the other part might be buried or just broken off.

The Texas Archaeological Society has field schools open to the public, as do their various local chapters. Archaeological fieldwork is hard work, but rewarding.

I found a corner tang once. I was somewhere near Fort Chadbourne sitting under a balanced boulder at the peak of a round mountain watching for turkeys. We called it nipple peak. The corner tang I found laying behind me up under the boulder. I did not want to break or lose it so I carefully folded it into a paper towel, placed it in my breast pocket, and buttoned it closed. Soon I saw a nice tom but it would not respond to my calls. I saw it was headed to a stock tank, so I ran a wide circle and set up on the edge of the stock tank. Soon I shot my turkey. I even remember patting my pocket to make sure my corner tang was still there, even though there was no way it could fall out. Arriving at camp with my turkey I wanted a picture of the Turkey and corner tang together. I removed the paper towl from my pocket, carefully unfolded it, and nothing was there. Being an arrowhead collector and hunting them every chance I get, you can understand how devastated I was missing the only corner tang I had ever found. Corner tangs perhaps being ceremonial pieces must be bad medicine. There is no way I could have lost it.

What options do you have for searching for them if you aren’t a landowner? That is my biggest obstacle I would guess. Don’t know where to begin. Some counties the property line extends out into the middle of the river. Others it’s to within a certain distance iof the high water mark. I don’t want anything to do with trespassing. I welcome any recommendations. Maybe I should look into the Texas Archeological Society.

On facebook look at groups like Texas Digging Chert and Texas Pay Digs. There are several operations charging for screen digs and self digs. These can be fun. Tip, take a pop up canopy to put over the screen or area your digging and more than one pair of good gloves. Look up Ladonia Fossil Park, also on facebook. You can get away with keeping any arrowheads you find there. Be careful with lakes, especially corps of engineers. It is illegal to take them from those locations and they will pursue charges "if caught". And of course walk your hunting lease.

This was the last dig I went on in east texas, but that was the only one I ever knew about in that part of the state. They are almost always towards the center of the state and south.

TheRingWorm...... know people that walk the edges of Lake Conroe & Lake Livingston.
Never herd of them having any issues as long as you don't step on private property .

"Corner tangs perhaps being ceremonial pieces must be bad medicine."

Now ya went and done it! Probably one of the most controversial subjects in the artifact collection crowd and even the Archeological crowd is the purpose of the Corner Tang Knife.

In some cases you're picking up something another person made 10,000+ years ago.

Theringworm, As another poster commented, pay screen digs are one way you can almost be sure to find an artifact or point. There are also a couple of places that you can pay to do the screen dig or pay less and ground search. There is one near Lampassas, Lexington, Elgin, Jonesboro, near Junction and Fredricksburg. I have been to about 6 screen digs. There's no guarantee but most of the time you will find something. They generally run about $200 dollars for 8 hours. The front end loader does most of the work. I did find one blade that a guy offered me $500 dollars in cash for on the spot. Another guy in Jonesboro found a set of matching huge blades that a guy paid $40,000 dollars for. So in extremely rare cases of screen digs one might find something and make some money.
