Thought it was every bit as good or better than the original. Hard to believe it has been 38 years since the original came out.

I saw it with the wife this weekend. Her idea, I really didn’t care to see it. Glad we did. Damn good movie, we really enjoyed it.
Now I have to go back and watch the original one.

Ok, why do fighter jets NOT have backward mounted missiles they can shoot at an enemy jet that is behind them?

That's funny to me because it brings back a fond memory. I believe it was 1975 me and my best friend Ron B decided to join the Air Force on a program they had called the buddy system where you end up at the same base I think it was. We had one condition; we would only join if they would guarantee that we would be jet fighter pilots Lets see both of us are just regular Joe's with a high school degree, Ron is legally blind in one eye and I have a hook finger. The Recruiter said Thanks but no Thanks !

Ok, why do fighter jets NOT have backward mounted missiles they can shoot at an enemy jet that is behind them? Because they are heat seeking missiles, they need to follow the engine heat. What they need instead is a big net to throw out, like catching a fish.

What they need instead is a big net to throw out, like catching a fish. There are both radar guided and heat seeking. Heat seekers are good enough nowadays they don't need the engine heat, just the relative heat of the whole airplane. Your wingman or wingmen would not care much for you shooting backwards.

The Recruiter said Thanks but no Thanks ! Many years ago a friend of ours in our golf group said that his son that was graduating from college in pre-med decided to join the Navy instead of going further in medicine. He said he wanted to fly fighter jets. His son succeeded. He flew F-18s including carrier training. After he finished his Navy stint, he went on to fly for Southwest Airlines. Now that's the kind of pilot I would want if flying commercial.

I just read that this is probably Val Kilmer's last movie. He announced about 5 years ago he had throat cancer and underwent a tracheotomy that has completely altered his voice, and his brief roll in the movie reflects his real life health issues. I have not see the movie yet but plan on taking my family, me and my daughter watched the original this weekend, she has never seen it before....

Any fighter pilot these days will say if you are close enough to see your enemy yo are too close. Most engagements take place well outside visual range and that is where the US military technology shines is our radar systems and guided weapon systems to allow a fighter to simultaneously engage and attack multiple aircraft without even seeing them or being seen. The reality is most of this stuff is being outdated quickly by autonomous aircraft that can be directed by either a pilot in the air or by pilots on the ground. Gone are the days of the traditional "dog fight"....though they make for good movie.

I took my 11-year-old grandson yesterday. $19.50 for tickets. !6.50 for popcorn and a drink for him, only. I didn't get anything.
It was a great film. Top Gun 2.0 but incredibly footage.

Guy, the fish net idea is what UFOs use, not advanced naval aircraft....

We saw it two nights ago and I agree. Still think I liked the first one better, but as far as sequel’s go, it was great!

I saw it today. It was predictable, but still a good movie. It was definitely worth the trip.

I was totally clueless on who she was and thought she was just some fling that occurred after the original movie! Thank you, sir.
