Unbelievable and breath taking.
Now, can you imagine sitting in the same spot you took that picture from on a really good horse 150 years ago and looking at it without roads in it? WOW

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

You might want to check out the road construction going on right now in YS. Supposed to be a 2-3 year project.

150th anniv. for Yellowstone, good idea to hit he road now !

Rivers will be high, our runoff started this week and they will be swift and cold.
Fishing can be great, small lakes around Laramie are hot.

Laramie may be a nice stopping point, we are about 12 hrs from DFW area. Unless you really want to see the front range, we take 287 up from Tx to I-70 east of Denver, E470 Toll rd,, then I-25 up to Ft Collins and 287 again into Laramie.
Open container started yesterday downtown. Decent food for families, good beers and nice atmosphere.

We have some cooler weather coming in with a slight chance or moisture, make sure you have a warm jacket and appropriate boots or shoes.
It will snow up high of we get this moisture.

A beautiful drive would be over the Snowy Range Pass, the highway just opened , 130, over to Saratoga ands it is very pretty and still lots of snow to see. The mountains will still have snow for you, it can get muddy too.

Enjoy and don't panic about seeing everything, you can not see it all in one trip. You'll have to decide what is a must see and do it, then plan a return to spend time in areas you really enjoyed.
Travel through the parks is slow and mountains roads can be slow travel as well, you may find it takes longer to get to where you're going than planned, just relax and enjoy where you can get.

Oh, please watch for wildlife on the highways, they are everywhere right now. Hitting an elk would ruin your trip, they fold up onto a pickup hood.
Fawns and calves should be hitting the ground soon, the fawn pronghorn are really quite cute. You'll see them from the highways.

We have wind coming, be ready.

We did Glacier about 10 years ago. Beautiful country. However, the “glacier” disappointed. Big crowds driving to the glacier. It looks like a snow capped hill.

Guide there said that it had been melting for centuries. I said “ Well, so much for recent global warming.”. He agreed.

But, there is pizza place in town that may be the best I’ve eaten. Don’t remember the whole name but it was
“Xxxx River Pizza Company”.

That will be an amazing trip, be safe.

I just returned the other day from that area. I hunted in Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness and stayed several nights in Jackson, WY and a couple nights in Colorado.

Might be a fun stop on the way back if you're in the area. We go shoot rentals.

There are some excellent sporting goods and gun stores in that part of the country. One of the best that I came across is a convenience store along I-90 in Big Timber, MT. In addition to the usual convenience store stuff, they have an excellent supply of firearms and liquor, all under the same roof. Now doesn't that say a lot about the people who call Montana home.

The average Walmart in Montana carries more firearms that what you'll find around here as well.

It is being discovered by the flight out of California. They will change the state for the worse. Home sales prices there and in neighboring Idaho are skyrocketing.

I drove from Jackson, WY into Idaho, specifically the Middle Fork Peak area in Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness (Salmon - Challis National Forest), for Spring Black Bear. I also had Grey Wolf and Mountain Lion tags. Nothing but Elk and deer were seen other than the small critters though there were signs of Black Bear and Mountain Lion. This was a backpack, spot-and-stalk hunt in very remote, rugged country. It kicked my @$$. My tags are good through the calendar year so I may go back for the Fall season. Regardless, I'll go back another Spring, but I may fly in to a Forest Service airstrip.

As an aside, I drove from Texas and spent time in Colorado on the way to Jackson and on the way back as well as spending time in Jackson in both directions.

Be ready for the crowds. I went and won't go back due to crowds and traffic. Oriental people are everywhere, and in the way.

There was a tour bus full of 'em at the National Elk Refuge outside of Jackson.

Did that trip minus Rushmore. Whitewater rafting in Glacier was fun. Did the Hidden Lake hike and it was nice. Lots of wildlife. Watched. Grizzly chase a Mtn. Goat across the trail. Hidden lake is beautiful. Whitefish is a cool little touristy type town. Fished Flathead Lake and had a great time. Beautiful lake. Big Fork has some good restaurants. I suggest getting tickets to Parks now. They have been packed. Arrive early in Glacier, very limited parking.
