My place in colorado is too far to drive for a weekend fly fishing trip. So where are some places in decent driving distance to go? Went to broken bow a while back. It is okay and I will be going back but need some other places to catch trout also.

Then on another subject where would be your choice to go for redfish on a fly rod. That is a trip I defiantly want to do.

Just last night a guy told me that bass fishermen drink beer and fly fishermen drink Cabernet. Any truth to that?……

I have had lots of fun fishing farm tanks for bass and bream with flyrod. Caught some white bass in the creeks during the Spawning runs as well. A co-worker caught lots of hybrids in the lakes on fly as well. Doesn't have to be trout to be fun. Get a 3 or 4lb bass on a 4 weight and have a ball. Catfish pond that they fed floating feed at I tied a few flies to look like that, biggest cat I caught was a little over 6lbs, on the 5wt that was a blast

Check out the Blue River in OK Walter. I have not been but have heard good things. A bit farther drive I'd suggest the Illinois river below the Tenkiller dam in NE OK.

If you’re talking about trout blue river.

Fly fishing in general can be done for any species of fish on any body of water. So the sky is the limit.

I would suggest Beavers Bend, but unless it's changed, it's way too crowded. The guys at Tailwaters do guided sand bass trips that look pretty good. I think they have quite a few spots that they target including the Sabine River above Toledo Bend Reservoir.

I am headed to Arkansas to fish out of Cotter on the White River in 2 weeks. I'll let you know how it goes.

As far as redfish...look me up gordafly.com / gordafly on Instagram. I run trips out of Matagorda for redfish, trout, sheepshead, and whatever else we come across.

Goose I’ll definitely do that. A redfish trip is on my list for this year. Not sure when. But I’m gonna do it. Let me know how the trout fishing goes

I am not interested in bass and etc on a fly rod. Now maybe striper on the east cost but that’s not a days drive.

Are you doing it yourself or going with one of the guides out of the Trout Dock there at Cotter? If you are using a guide do the shore lunch. It’s the best part of the trip. It’s the only time I ever eat freshwater trout. The BLT’s they do are sinful. If you want numbers you can literally catch as many as you want to catch. They also have some monsters in there.

Arkansas. Friend of mine from HS fishes Arkansas weekly for trout, she’s even got a pretty dang hood business built out of it. I’ll text you more info

Going with Steve Dally from Dally's Ozark Fly Fisher. His shop was recommended to me from another forum, so I will relay a report. I just want to catch some fish, and have some fun. I am going with my dad, it was a bday trip from him and my mom.

Anytime between now and the end of the year, with September and October being PRIME.

This.
Years ago, I fished Purtis Creek a lot. I would often see fly fishermen in kayaks on the lake and they caught a lot of fish. TPWD would release trout in the ponds below the Purtis dam in January. This is also done in many places around the state.

Plenty of opportunity to use a fly rod here. Farm Ponds are another good source.
