Got a friend not on the forum going on a Yukon Dall hunt in August. I helped him put a rifle together. Weight was the main factor. After lots and back with Tony from here on the forum, we decided on a 6.5 SAUM.

- Donor rifle was a Tikka T-3 .270WSM
- .264 Bartlein #8 barrel finished at 23"
- Manners Carbon Fiber stock
- Keep the Tikka bottom metal and trigger
- Talley Lightweight rings
- March-F 3-24X42

Bare rifle was 6 pounds 5.13oz. Rifle finished without ammo was 7 pounds 14.4oz.

We could have saved some weight on the scope, but hunter was stuck on FFP and MIL which drove us to the March-F.

Rifle will push 156 Bergers over H-1000. Anxious to see how it shoots.

Yeah, you can probably take a sheep with that.

Nice Rifle.

2950 won’t be happening. Gotta keep in mind it’s a 23” barrel and we stayed with the factory tikka bottom metal (plastic), so that 156 is way down in the case. I took it to pressure, light swipes and ejector marks. That was at 57 grains of h1000 and a 250 cci primer, pressure started showing at 56.5. Started back down and it shot best at 55.5 grains. Did all that before I ever put the chronograph on it. We hoped for more speed, but it is what it is. Also, that was shots 18-20. It will speed up roughly 80-150fps as it breaks in, per every Bartlien I’ve ever shot. I’m a go fast fan, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Fast is fine, but accuracy is final.

It looks good, and shoots good! I too have a rifle like that won’t make the speed but its very accurate.

up I'm sure a dead Dall Sheep won't know if the 156 is at 2700 or 2950. grin
