Has anyone heard of a breed Dogo Argentino for hog hunting dog? Does anyone know of a pure breeder of this breed in Texas?

I have heard of them and they seem like pretty cool dogs. Lots of breeders in TX, just google dogo argentino breeders in TX.

It is a dog bred in my country for a boar hunt,is very strong and durable, and with a big bite ,was selected through the crosses from 12 races .It has the defect of being dull to run , and unintelligent, it does not matter a boar running a hare or a cow ,for that at present bred him to greyhound russian to give faster and smarter. Dogo Argentino creators did not need to go fast to run as hunting from horses ,used dogs so pure as those in this photo

I just got a Dogo pup last week. They are pure big game hunters. People in the US usually use them as catch dogs only . Which is a waste if u talk to Argentine hunters.
Not sure what others are talking about but dogos can be trained to do everything in the hunt. The guy I just got mine from runs his on average 5 miles a hunt with no problem. Argentine hunters routinely run theres 20 miles per hunt.
Its all in the training. Im a brand new hog hunter but have been reading up on dogos for two years. Dogos mature much slower than other hunting dogs and shouldn't be expected to perform to high levels till minimum 12 months. Most likely 2 years of age. Which is why some dont like using them. Easier to get an Am Bulldog to catch at 9 months.
Just my opinions. No hunting experience at this point all academic so to speak. Im excited to get my pup on some pigs after his teeth are fully developed. Until then its obedience and working on his nose to see how much he can track.

took 25 years hunting wild boar with knife and dogs, and I've tried with all races. My pack consists of a pure greyhound is the first to reach the dam, and three Russian greyhound crossed with dogo argentino who are arriving after and fastened with firmness. the problem I experienced with the Dogo Argentino is pure lacks speed and sometimes not distinguish what kind of prey have to pursue even very fighter with other dogs. at Russian greyhound cross was gives more strength to your skin, more speed to his career, more intelligence and docility to other dogs. given the type of terrain that we hunt that is the best dog I have no doubt

From what I have seen, Dogos do much better in a pack setting. If you can find a good one they are hard to beat, but finding that one might take a while. The number one thing I have seen is re griping on a hog. When using one has a catch dog that is a no-no. They are the new fad breed it seems. Over priced and everyone has "imported" blood.......... Dont take a breeders word for it, watch the dogs work. Both parents.

If I am reading all your comments correctly, a pack of pure bread Dogo's by themselves is not enough. A diversified pack of "1st responders" (the first dogs on the hog) and "catch" dogs to hold the hog until the hog can be hobbled or killed would be best. What are some fast, trainable and aggressive breeds to catch up to the hog? What are some other catch dog breeds?

Don't have to be an aggressive breed , any thing from jack russels to hounds are use to strike hogs
I personally use hound an cur Xcatahoula dogs but alot of different beeds are used An just because its a certain breed don't mean it's gonna work , find some body that has sure enough hog dogs an try to buy one don't matter if its pure breed or not I will hunt a poodle if it gets out an strikes hogs
As far as catch dogs I would go with a good breed bulldog weather it's a American bulldog or pit Personally I like smaller true Pitbulls like 45-50 pounds my gyp is 35 pounds an my male is 45 they catch hard an Anit letting go an you Anit gotta fight with big dog swimming creeks or anything

My neighbor has one that he brought from Bolivia. It’s huge, and thank goodness it likes me, and not as a food group.
