Google has so many different answers to this question!
How can I ship a pistol inside of Texas? I am unlicensed and from my understanding can ship to a ffl? Which shipping contractors accept this type of shipment?
Thanks

Fedex hub (not the FedEx Office store) has worked for me in the past. As a non-FFL holder, you cannot ship a handgun USPS. I’ve never shipped a handgun UPS so will defer to those who have.

You can ship a handgun or long gun without the use of an FFL within the state of Texas as long as both parties reside there. The issue is that UPS requires them to be shipped overnight, hello C note. You cannot ship via USPS unless you are an Federal Firearms Licensee.
From the ATF WEBSITE: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.
In addition, federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm or ammunition, prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm and requires obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt.
You don't know what you don't know.........

Thank you all, I understand that it is legal but the problem is finding a shipping company that hasn’t changed their weapons policies where they no longer ship for non licensed folks

Tell them it is a tuned computer for a C8 corvette. I would only ship a pistol via FFL but it is doable and not my deal.

A tuned C8 ECM may be more likely to be stolen than a firearm.
Pass the gravy.

I take handguns to an FFL and he ships USPS. He charges his transfer fee plus actual shipping. This may be a cheaper route if you have a gun shop you deal with.

It’s certainly legal to do it without an FFL, but IMO the expense and headache isn’t worth it. I take a pistol to the gun shop, they jot down the information, I pay $40, and leave. No fights with the clerk, asking for managers, etc.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I would ignore the advice about not notifying the carrier that the package contains a firearm.

Dumb suggestion as the day is long. Pistol lost then shipping organization pays nothing on the insurance because you lied.

Doesn’t sound worth not disclosing it’s a firearm. Thinking out loud what’s the penalty if it happens to go thru an X-ray machine and comes back on you? Certainly not cheap I imagine.
Thanks all
