What's the best way to keep coons out of a protein feeder? Thanks in advance.

Duke's coon traps are awesome. Just put some corn or marshmallows in them and set them up around the hog panels or posts of your feeders. Make sure to stake them down otherwise they'll walk off with the trap.
I've also set up a 2x6 plank that is lined with sardines that leads up into an empty drum. Trap them in there and dispose of them.

Dry cat food works in Duke's. Learned it on here. Much less mess to deal with. I transfer it to an empty gallon juice jug. Super easy to bait. I'm ramping up my rahkoon extermination campaign. I've learned you need to trap a lot of them before you even start baiting a pig box trap.

What's the best way to keep coons out of a protein feeder? Thanks in advance. Don't let them get in. In all seriousness, good luck. Killing them off is only a temporary respite as new ones will fill in any voids you create. Feeder design is paramount here. Ports are better than troughs and especially ports which extend out and are difficult to climb on.

If a non timed feeder ,there was a company called coonhoods. Made a spring loaded cover for most brands of feeders. They worked good. Had them on a couple of feeders. Don't know if he is still in business.

Thanks for the responses. Coonhoods.com is still in business but changing location so everything is out of stock. They are supposed to be open later this month.
The feeders are on a friend's property in Mason county and he doesn't get out there very often so hunting and/or trapping are not really options. He was wanting ideas and the coonhoods might be just what he's looking for.
Thanks again for all the recommendations.

Late to the party but strongly recommend Dukes as well. Cat food is the ticket for quick catches. I’m up to 41 dispatched and 2 more to address this evening. Traps have been set since February this year. Darn things are relentless - I have 3 traps around my protein feeder that have more than paid for themselves.

Keep feed ports 40" off the ground.

I use Z-Traps, which is like the Dukes but with a push AND pull trigger. I've never needed any bait beyond what they were there for in the first place; corn, protein, etc.
