Our TV was black and white and no remote until I was in high school. And the 3 channels over the antenna on the roof.

I was Dad's remote control unit. I think someones forgetting about channels 9 and 41. Lucha Libre was a must. Great masks.

41 was fuzzy. Yes, there was 9 too. I didn't form an appreciation for Mr. Rogers until many years later. We watched 9 at school for Spanish lessons. I retained very little, and I was in Spanish Honor Society in High School; field trip to Mexico City and the whole nine yards.

Every boy knew which kid's dad had a subscription to Playboy.

I was in high school before getting a remote like that ... before that it was rabbit ears, and being in rural Oklahoma, that meant two channels that were viewable, and two that would come in sometimes, but still fuzzy reception. At 17 when we finally got cable, Skinemax was the BOMB.

Let's see! I remember the first time I saw Walt Disney Wonderful World of Color on my uncles TV, If I remember right it was a 19 or 21 inch. It was Rabbit Ears or an Antenna on a pole back then, two channels with the ears and 3 with the antenna. With the antenna we could pick up channel 9 out of Odessa, otherwise it was local channel 7 out of Big Spring or 2 out of Midland. Some time in the 70's we started seeing big changes in screen size, up until then a 25 inch was about as big as it got.

Remember going down to Sears and Dad would pull out a couple of the old tube fuses and transistors and check them, then match the numbers and head to the counter.

heck, we watched the scrambled version. "I think I saw a boob!"

And they all went off the air at midnight.

I've never seen one of those either. I was fortunate enough to have a small black and white tv in my room growing up. Our house was concrete. Had to get a little creative with the rabbit ears.

If you remember this you are old. Slam Bang Theater, ended early 70's. DFW local show. Back then, it was not 24 hour broadcast, this was the first show in the morning..

Top tip.. the red channels where broadcast to all subscribers. These 3 channels were blocked by an in-line coax filter if you didn't pay for them. If you opened the pedestal and could figure out which cable in the rats nest went to your house, you could remove the filter and get free HBO and Playboy (or so I hear).
