Yes, but you could risk a lawsuit and a criminal citation, depending on the facts. Section 822.013 of the Texas Health and Safety Code allows a livestock owner to shoot a dog or coyote that is attacking, is about to attack, or has recently attacked their livestock, provided that the owner witnessed the attack.

With the video you have looks like you can do what is best for your animals.

I didn't see any livestock in the video.

I kinda figured the deer was good enough. Maybe not though.

Little late now since it's been posted on the internet....This video should not exist and neither would those dogs.

You're correct. Deer are not considered livestock. It is illegal to shoot a dog in TX thanks to Rick Perry and every legislator that voted yes on that legislation. Regardless of how stupid that law may be. It is an exception if say, you were out of your blind and the dog acted in a way that made you fear for your safety. If your camera was not working at the time and there is no photographic/video evidence, it would actually be better for your case. Hopefully that dog does not act in any way that would make you fear for your safety but if it does...

I used to have a dog problem. Nuff said.

I caught a chase dog with a gps collar on at the end of season last year. Neighbor had called and was hot because they'd run a pig thru his cattle a few times then chased the pig onto our property. I took the collar off the dog, loaded it dog in my truck and took it up to the gate where I tied the leash to the ball f my truck and gave it a bowl of water. The neighbor came over and we called the GW. Before she could get there the hog doggers showed up and loaded up the two dogs that I couldn't get a hand on, and got mad when I wouldn't give him the one I had. I made him wait at the road until the GW arrived. She got there a few minutes later, then her husband who's a state trooper pulled up as well. I'm pretty new to the area and not a resident there (been going to the property my whole life but never lived there), but the neighbor is a life long local, so he knew everyone involved. I knew there was nothing to be done, but asked the GW to drag the ordeal out as long as she could, and since it was a slow day for her, she made sure to catch up with the neighbor on all the local news, high school sports, and gossip. About two hours and a few cups of coffee later she finally asked me to return the dog and collar to the guys and they left. The guys had turned the dogs loose on a property less than 100acres in size that is 2.5-3 miles from ours, knowing dang good and well those dogs would range off their place immediately. But there's nothing to be done because a dog can't be charged with trespassing and its humans never stepped foot on our property. I'm a dog lover myself, but things like this will test a person's patience for sure.

Tolerance is the virtue of a man without conviction.

The end of the world began the day it was created, and life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease.
