According to documents obtained by the Dallas Morning News, men with waists sizes over 40 inches and women over 35 inches will now have to track and share their weight loss efforts.

Officers who don't trim down by December can be denied promotions, overtime, or even be removed from enforcement duties completely.

Have to wonder just who's pushing this?

We had a rigorous physical standard in my gang unit. The officers in the unit wanted it. Sergeants were excluded, because by the time it takes to get to that position, our bodies were trashed from fights, car wrecks and such.

Not the donut shops.

Why shouldn’t they be in decent shape?

DPS brass.

If they're obese, they shouldn't be in a position that sometimes physical fitness to properly do the job.

I’d think all agencies should have this, their paid to protect the public and we have some 400 pound deputies around here. About the only thing they can protect anyone from is having left overs.

I remember there was a photo in Texas of some deputies around a deer feeder. The photo was from a game camera. They were investigating something I don't remember what. The deputies were a bit portly. Someone altered the photo so instead of having a corn bin/barrel, it had a donuts sign. Like it was a donut feeder. It was pretty funny.

I don't hear about DPS Troopers actually chasing folks down much. They've been doing the job apparently so leave them alone. I can see "new" standards for future Troopers though.

The 2019 lawsuit the troopers filed when this was initially brought up was due to the folks who passed the physical testing but weren’t shaped properly. The previous lawsuit was dismissed because no one had damages to prove yet.

They should be in shape. If they can’t meet the physical requirements of the job, put them on a desk job, less pay, no promotions. Let ‘em give driving tests and be hall monitors and such.

Using measurements such as waist size is a foolish way of determining physical fitness. This guy wouldn’t pass their standards.

He shouldn’t be police because of his waist size, it should be because of probable steroid use, and roid rage potential.

Yeah, the whole measurement based system doesn’t make sense. It should be ability based.

Eddie Hall seems like a nice guy. I think he’d make a decent cop. Ronnie Coleman was a cop in Arlington. Didn’t seem to be a problem.

I don’t agree with a measurement based system, but they do need a physical fitness test. I don’t think they should let women be in law enforcement either.

That’s how we did it. DPS will get their [censored] handed to them when the new lawsuit gets filed.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Most of us here are in peak physical condition and warriors. Do you remember the video a few days back where the crazy woman was wielding a knife in Walmart and the copper tazed her to play it safe? Your average OT participant would have double tapped her in the central processing unit and proceeded filling the cart with the grocery list like no big deal.
