Has anyone used timers for water troughs? I’m 4 hrs away from one place and would like to have something that would cut off automatically in the event something happen that would keep the water flowing, costing me, it’s community water and expensive.

I'm guessing he does and it failed. I've had this happen. Sucks to come back to a pond where you didn't intend to have one. I'd advise spending the money on an irrigation quality valve and timer. The cheap ones you get at home depot leak and bust first freeze that comes along.

I would install a timer relay with a solenoid valve / works good, lasts a long time.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

I would install a timer relay with a solenoid valve / works good, lasts a long time. One day when it fails to work then there is possibly no water at all. A guy who makes water troughs suggested to me to turn on the water valve where it is on just partial so it can still fill the trough but not flow the full gpm as with a wide open valve.
