Given how spotty bullet supplies have been I now have a small collection of Hornady A-Max, ELD, ELD-X and SST I've accumulated just to be able to shoot.... I know the copper jacket is supposed to be different between the ELD and ELD-X (target -vs- hunting). But my question is about performance... for a given diameter bullet (7mm) and a specific grain (162gr)... is there any performance difference either in accuracy or DRT ? It might be the shooter.. but I don't see it...

I have made all of them shoot tight. The SST will likely spin drift 500 yards and more, due to the canelure.

I have had great terminal perf from A-max, ELD-X, and SST. I have not personally shot a deer with an ELD-M. Friends have told me they do just fine.

Availability is terrible on the 7mm bullets. What is your preferred bullet?

Nope..it's the other way actually... I had ELD-Xs, developed some loads (thank you FiremanJG) and they group wonderfully.... however, since the current admin took office, it's been hard to get ELDs.... so I got SSTs when available. Now I've got a mix collection of A-Max from back in the day, ELDs and SSTs. Out to 200yrds (short distance) groups are nearly the same for each type. If there is inconsistency it is likely me... I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

I’ve had good on game performance with SST as well as A-max. I still have 700ish of the A-max and buy them whenever I can find them. I’ll have to switch to the eld some day but I have to find them first.

Shot A-max, SST’s and one of the ELD’s with a Grendel, A-max grouped very slightly better…..doubt there’d be any difference in hunting.
