I have a Kimber 84 Select in 257 Roberts. Great round and rifle. Awesome, do you hand load for it or factory ammo? Hand load. I haven’t shot it in a while. I used H4350 but had to switch to IMR 4451 because the Creedmoor made H4350 impossible to find. Mine did well with 100 & 115 Ballistic Tips, 117 Prohunters and 120 Hot Cors. Brass is impossible to find now, might want to look for 7x57 Mauser brass and neck down.

Great Texas deer rifle. You know, they ALL don't need to shoot half inch groups at 500 yards to hunt with. You made a GREAT choice! Look forward to range report, cool caliber. I'll keep an eye out for ammo/brass for you. Agree. Lightweight Kimbers are good hunting rifles. The main thing to remember is the barrel is really thin and heats up so it’s not one you would have fun at the bench with. You have to let the barrel cool after a couple shots. Once you get it sighted in, makes a great hunting rifle.

I purchased I Kimber 84m in 300 win mag two years ago. It’s shoots sub MOA with factory ammunition. They are very light rifles so they do kick….but it should not be too bad with the .257 Roberts.

Once you get it sighted in, makes a great hunting rifle. My Weatherby 6.5-300 has one of those pencil-thin barrels, and after 3 shots the barrel becomes too hot to handle with the bare hand. So, like others have said, I take along at least one other rifle/handgun to shoot during the cool down period. But those first couple of shots out of a cold, clean barrel continue to surprise and please me.

Think I have my ammo situation solved, found 4 boxes of Hornady Superformanfe 117 grain sst ammo for $50 a box. Even if they don’t shoot that’ll be 80 pieces of brass to tinker with so that’ll be a a nice start. Guy has a few more boxes if anybody need some I can pass his number along

Great looking rifle congratulations!
Love .257 Roberts, partly due to nostalgia but mostly because it is a light recoiling round that excels at deer and antelope harvesting.
Yeah commercial ammo can be hard to find and reloading is almost a must. Remington Core Lokt and Hornady Super Performance can sometimes be found but whew at a premium. If you decide to reload keep an eye on the online brass resellers or your local gun shops, for .257 Roberts Brass. Last month I found some Roberts brass and some 300 Savage brass at a small gun shop in North Texas, felt like I won the lotto!

From I-20 east of Terrell, take Hwy 47 south and turn at the sign a little before you get to Hwy 243. If you miss it turn around and look for the rifle range on the left, the Store is on your right at the next turn in.
From Canton go south on 19 to the big stop light and turn right, at the stop light stay to the right and go past the High School, stay on Hwy 243 west and go past the 1st wyly's sign, and turn right at Hwy 47 about a mile+ further west at the blinker. BTDT and got almost lost my 1st time down there. Ron

257 Roberts was all the One Gun for everything rage for gun writers back in the 60's & early 70's when I "came of age" until the 7Rmg came out and gave the gun writers a new Elk Cannon toy to praise. I backed into a M70 Fwt Rbt's at factory wholesale cost in the early '70's umm 1972 or 3 I think when I was working for a very large wholesaler that had just taken on the Winchester line again under their new St Louis based ownership, pre Browning, and used it for teaching my 2 young preteen & early teenaged son's to shoot with it's light recoil, and hunted it hard in tight cover for several years, along with a 1st Run Ruger 77 25-06. FYI If you do get a Rbt's the old RP Round Nose bullet is the last thing I'd buy for ammo and for several years in the 70's was the only factory ammo commonly available.
MY last hunt with the Robt's I shot a Very Large hog in right shoulder joint at about 75' and rolled him. When he went quiet I climbed out of the blind he got up and disappeared into an adjacent 40-50 acre thicket of inch +thick 100' tall briar canes and fallen trees. "H" wouldn't have it but I was not gonna leave him in there. Found the blood trail and followed on my hands and knees for over 75 yards inside the thicket, hit him twice more with decently placed body hits, and with my last bullet hit him in the face when he charged me on 3 legs at under 50'. Took 3 of us 4 hours with a chain saw to get him out of the thicket....but he ate good. I put the Roberts away after that and went back to Long Action calibers until recently.
Now days IMO there are better choices for a one gun shooter with young learner's coming up...7-08 would be my 1st choice and I don't have one yet but making do with a 7x57, or mebbe one of the 6.5's that I have had good experiences with in 6.5 Swede and so on. Ron
