Reverse engineering the data on page 52 seems to suggest that, but measuring the bullets shows they are ~0.030" longer which should result in slightly better BC.
Am I crazy?

I doubt there is a noticeable difference in the BC of the two since the only difference is the round nose and relocation of the cannelure

The Boss’s quail feeder is safe for a night or 2.
She is happy to see the bobwhites scurrying around but she doesn’t like to hear about her fox’s being shot. . . Don’t share this with her DJ

PS
110gr CC is apparently not fur friendly but, when in Rome.

I swear that stuff was still floating down when I drove up to get him.

Bill,

The ammo schizophrenia is getting the best of me crazy. I bought 200 rounds of Wilson Combat nickel 110 CC to use for home defense. Then I saw great reports on the Speer 135gr HP's and bought 120 rounds to test. Shortly after that you announced the 125gr Controlled Chaos.

Please forgive my departure from Hunting performance, but regardless of what I have purchased, what would you consider the best round for home defense out of an 8-inch barrel, mainly explosive expansion with limited penetration, but still able penetrate level IIIA soft body armor. Testing we did while I was on the Tempe SWAT team from 1993 to 2001 seemed to indicate higher velocity, lighter, sharp point bullets were the best performing against soft body armor. But bullets have come along way in 20 years ago, especially with awesome developments like 300 HAM'R. Wish I'd had this back then instead of an MP5.

Thanks,

Bryan

For urban home defense these are good choices:

110gr Hornady V-MAX
130gr Speer HP
135gr Sierra HP (my choice)

The Controlled Chaos are great for quick incapacitation, but the base will fully penetrate a human

Thanks Bill. I envy the time and resources you have to test all these out. smile

It seems counter intuitive but I’m not sure I’d use 110 vmax for home defense if over penetration is a concern.

From a 16” it seems to be exiting a lot of hogs in my experience.
I just got another decent boat on the ground with it last night. No exit with an intentional broadside hit in the femur hit but the neck and gut hit blew right through with minimal expansion evidence.

I’m going to concentrate on wringing that out for a bit but I feel at the lower velocities it isn’t getting the explosive fragmentation it’s designed for in .308 velocities

I'd like to add my vote to the Sierra 135gr HP. They are the most destructive bullet I've shot so far in my Ham'r. Whatever you hit literally explodes so I don't think you would have to worry about over penetration.

Good to know its a good performer. I just got a good sub-moa load put together today for both the 130 HHC and the Sierra 135 HP.

When there's nothing around to shoot and we get bored enough we indulge in something we call spud bustin'. You hang potatoes at various distances and see what happens when you hit them. Depending on the caliber and bullet type the results vary from chunks flying everywhere to a mist cloud. No matter the bullet the Ham'r tends to lean toward the mist cloud. eek2

I recently purchased a 16 recon 1/13 from WC and have probably 100 rounds through it at this point with the 130 HHC ammunition. I have enjoyed the whole thread and the amount of information it contains. Very little recoils compared to my 6.8 and 6.5 Grendel. I have been using those to Thermal hunt which has to be the funnest thing I have done in a while. Great to read Bill’s posts and see how much information is being given. Just wanted you all to know that my brain is trying to soak it all up. Will eventually be reloading but have just been shooting the factory ammo. DJ. Your music videos are the most entertaining things I have watched. Thanks to all for sharing your information! Mark

I've been running my 8in HAMR against my 8in blackout for a couple months now. Interestingly, I just tested some 110gr VMAX and I don't get nearly the performance bump (in fps) that I do with the heavier bullets. My sample size isn't that large yet and its the only 110gr range bullet I've tried so far. But the performance gain with the 120-130gr bullets is significantly higher. I'm running 130ish gr up to 2150 which to me is pretty awesome out of 8 inches. Factory 110 VMAX don't run that fast in my set up.

thanks. however, the link to the accurate 1680 page is dead. I'm not sure if it offered anything that was already in your data though.

Those are good numbers. That’s roughly what I would have expected and is consistent with how heavier loads in my 8in compare to 18in published data. My “factory’ 110 vmax are underperforming for some reason. I’ll have to reload some and see what I come up with.

Nice shooting. Looking for the 125 CC to show up on your web site. I believe you mentioned a couple of weeks age the truck with them was between SD and Arkansas. I think they might have had a flat. lol

Pallet of 125gr CC bullets finally showed up Friday, they should be on the WC web site today or tomorrow.

Lehigh Defense 125gr CC bullets are up on the WC web site now and we have plenty in stock. We also received notice today that we have a large shipment of Speer 130gr HHC bullets heading our way. So maybe the bullet drought is over???

Powder however is a MAJOR problem and getting worse!!!

Tks, 2400-2420fps with CFEBLK out of a 16" seems to be the sweet spot for accuracy

Thank you for the input, I will be utilizing CFE BLK out of a 1-15" Bill Wilson Ranch 18" with SiCo Omega. as long as I can achieve sub moa at an appropriate velocity I will be happy.
