I’ve hunted a few times on public land in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Never ran into another hunter while out in the field. So, I would say I felt pretty good.

Follow-up question on the subject…

How much scouting do you guys do before the season, or do you prefer to stay out of the area until hunting it? My scouting would be mostly in a kayak, floating the creek, trying to listen and pinpoint roosts.

Way to go on high jacking my thread. Did you ever think this was worth its own thread?

“Turkey hunting on public land” is a good place to start a central location for all information regarding public land hunting focused on turkey, no?
Pretty niche group in TX, and anyone with experience can give insight on multiple details.
It was not designated as safety specific or a certain piece of land, but could be useful for anyone interested in turkey hunting on public land. With information on different areas of that subject, that others might be curious about as well.

I would’ve started my own thread had you not started yours first, with a similar title, and I wouldn’t have cared if someone else wanted to ask a question after me. Especially if I had already received an answer, and had another thread already started in “Turkey Hunting” (notice how I didn’t ask this question on your other one).

Tuning in for information, not so much back and forth drama... I have killed turkeys in the spring ,but on private ground and not really chasing them hard. It does intrigue me though, and might get into it sometime.

Yep, same here.
This is my first year chasing them on public, I usually just hunt some excellent private land in Nebraska so this will be quite the different hunting in North TX.

The state of Texas sucks at having public land to hunt turkeys. Just not a whole lot of it. And the better places are by draw only. Reason I go out of state.
