Took this guy this evening near Laredo. I’ve killed a bunch of them with rifles but this was my first with a bow. Wow what a rush. Spotted him from about 200 yards out and stalked to 30 yards. At about 50 yards there was an opening in the brush so I went into It. When I got to about 35 yards out there was no good way to get back out! That last 5 yards I was crawling and scratching through brush and he knew something was up. Was staring my way that last bit but It was too thick to see me and I had the wind so I got lucky. Finally got clear and shot him from my knees. There was a few others here who lost theirs trying to track in the brush so I aimed below his ear and he didn’t take a step.

Congrats

They are fun as hell to stalk with a bow.
Not the smartest of animals and as long as you come in from downwind and are not riding on a bulldozer you can usually get up close enough to put an arrow through one.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Back in the day, we would saw into and then break out the longest tusk, take it to a jeweler and make it the bob of a key chain. Pretty cool.

One reason why I give great respect to Javelina is although they are smaller than feral hogs.....they have impressive dental work.

They don't sport 'cutters' per se......(like hogs have whetters and cutters) but rather a couple of large canine teeth that inter-mesh.

They have a viscous bite.

Tailor made animal to bowhunt IMO.

I'm sure most of us well knew what you mean't and my reply was not submitted to 'correct'. up

Just pointing out the differences between hogs and Javi's that some might not be aware of. Even small Javelina are well equipped in the dental department. Thankfully, they are not inclined to attack unless completely cornered or you have dogs with you. They hate dogs and will attack them with abandon.

And that's the reason you don't want a dog to get close to one, they'll cut one to ribbons.

Yep. We had a dog get hit this last season. Looked like he had 2 poopers and a hole in his leg.
