What is you favorite gun to carry? When I started duck hunting the "olds" of Arkansas swore by the 12 gauge 870 Remington Wingmaster. So that is what I have used for 40 plus years with no regrets. Anyone else use the 870? If not what do you use?

In the old days I shot a Win Model 1400 12 ga cuz that is all I had. When the Nova came out, I got one cuz I had moved to north TX and had some problems with the Win cycling on cold days. 10 years ago or so I broke my middle finger on the Nova's trigger guard and it hurt like heck to shoot. Went to the SBEII and don't reckon I'll need another. Once in a while I'll shoot my Citori tho.

SBEII. Going on 15 years, the more I abuse it the better it shoots. Clean it once a year. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/02/full-2250-335308-ff6f9a94_354e_4f61_9ab3_ed1925e5ce9d.jpeg)

Started with an original SBE. I'm done with 12ga. Shoot a Benelli Ultra Light and TriStar 28ga now, but soon to be SBEIII 28ga. Mix in the TriStar .410 when I can get components to load ammo.

New model Browning Sweet 16 A5 is my go to duck and dove gun. Throw in a 28 and 410 when conditions are right.

Still my two favorites... I mainly use the 870 now but only because I feel better about tossing it in the mud rather than the 500 ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/02/full-30833-335332-shottys.jpg)

Beretta AL390...original hydro dip was showing a lot of wear...so had a cerakote finish applied...ready for the next 24 years of hard hunting... My son has been shooting the same gun for 15 years, its black. Back then they called it the $500 Walmart special, it was the only Beretta walmart sold back then, it was the best auto deal going back then. My son has lost interest, now my daughter wants to shoot, just put a smaller stock on it so it fits her, we will be at the skeet range this summer, maybe she will going hunting with me next season. She has been shooting a youth 20ga.

Usually a Citori. About half and half 12 or 20. When geese are in the mix I usually take the 12. Beretta 390 when I hunt salt or brackish water.

Anyone else use the 870? If not what do you use? Grew up shooting the 870 but switched to a benelli M1 super90 about 20 yrs ago and it’s been great.

Every time I think about getting another shotgun for duck hunting, I just can’t make myself put this one down. I have used it for many years with zero issues. Clean it once a year.

Berretta A400
All my life I shot an 870. Lots of nicks, scratches etc on it. I'm fine with all that as they are reminders of great hunts I've had with it, ducks, turkey, dove, pheasants, quail. Twice I got the Tx turkey slam with it (rio, eastern). But when I started serious duck hunting 8 years ago the dips in the lakes were to much for that wood stock and I'm never getting rid of that gun. So I put it away and got a Benelli SBE2. I guess I got a Lemmon as that gun jammed on me all the time. Almost got another as that SBE2 still is the best fitting gun I have shouldered....but I got the A400 and it shoots so I'm done with buying [censored] guns.
One of my buddies got a SBE2 20g for this year ....that is a SWEET gun to shoot.

Have been shooting 12 gauges at waterfowl for last 45 years. Began my transition to 20 gauge this year due to shoulder issues. Started with my Grandfather’s Fox SxS, then Winchester 1400, then S&W 3000, various Mossbergs (ugh!), and finally Benellis, starting with original SBE 20+ years ago. Currently alternating between Cordoba 12 gauge and Montefeltro 20 gauge.

Started out with an 870 wood stock gun. Few years later bought a synthetic stock 870 (ex got the first one). Few years later bought a Winchester SX2, which I shot for a good long while. Finally decided I wanted a proper left-hand semi auto, and went with a Benelli SBE2, which I still shoot now. If Winchester made the SX series in lefty, that’s what I would have stayed with. I killed a lot of ducks, geese, pheasant, quail, chukar, and doves with my SX2.

First year was an 870 Express Synthetic in 20 ga. After season, got a Mossberg 930 in 12ga. Got to go one more season, but have completely missed the last two. No reason to upgrade further Maybe next year.

When lead was legal I duck hunted with an Auto 5 and Remington Nitro Mags. When steel first became required, those first steel shot shells where crap and would score and damage barrels too. I moved up to an Ithaca Mag 10 to make up for the steel shotshell issues. 3 1/2 12s did not exist until around 5 or 10 years later. Though I duck hunt with any of a mix of 12ga guns, I would have to say that Mag 10 is still my favorite waterfowl gun, but realize I am shooting lighter loads and a more open choke than most of the 12GA guys hunting with me using factory loads. It's been lightened with a synthetic forend, a shorter back bored barrel, and custom chokes. After around 40 years of hunting with it, it's like an old friend and it's the only gauge I am set up to reload for. Still because of the dramatic improvement in loads over the years, shotgun improvements, weight, and knowing I am only going to get older, I have considered a complete change and buying a nice dedicated 20 GA waterfowl shotgun. I have mostly already made that change with my upland hunting. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/02/full-1680-335642-102_8461.jpg)

I've used a Beretta 390 for the last 20 years. Wish I would have bought 2 when Wally World had them for $325. I've picked up several of them for family members over the years, good guns, all have run flawlessly. Finally found a 20 gauge on GB last year.

The first shotgun I bought myself was an 870 express. Had it a season then I found a Browning BPS on sale at a wal-mart. Have been shooting a BPS for 29 seasons now, Have them in 12, 16, 20, and 28 gauge. Love the thumb safety and I can be polite in any duck blind as the gun is a bottom ejector.

Using a 3 shot gun is basically a confession that you have difficulty hitting the target , hence you just blast some shells out and hope something falls. "Hunters" use over and under, and rarely fire the second shot, unless they want to score a double. .
