Headed and staying in Fredericksburg TX next week with the wife. We are doing the wine tasting deal and as a swap off we get to go to Garrison Brothers Distillery. We will be in the area for 4 days.
Gimme some places that are laid back bars, saloons that we might need to look at. I don't mind going out a few miles and thought of Luckenbach and the Country store, Blanco, Driftwood etc Looking at a easy going no BS type atmosphere. Maybe with live music and food. Nothing formal. Jeans and a t shirt type venues. Help me out, please.

https://www.andalusiawhiskey.com/https://milamandgreenewhiskey.com/Both within 20 minutes of Garrison Brothers and about 1/2 mile apart. Milam and Greene is a great distillery with an unbelievable amount of knowledge and experience, they are doing great things there. Garrison Brothers along with Lone Elm are consistently the best whiskey in the liquor store. Remember with Garrison brothers, it ain’t cheap in quality or price.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

Fat [censored] winery is a must stop. About as laid back as laid back can get. For bars Bankersmith is 12 miles south of Fred on old San Antonio road ( also known as old no.9 Hwy). Pretty cool little joint. Luckenbach is just east of there around 6-8 miles across Grapetown road. Albert bar is cool too….during the lockdown the locals would all get together and drink beer on the steps even though the bar was closed.
If you venture into boerne the ye old Kendall inn is a good place to have a drink or 3.
The only bar I care for in Fredericksburg proper is Crossroads saloon.

But as Herbie says above may not be that great on the wine. I'm no wine kinda guy. Some of the other places more so along Main street were too ritzy for my bones. Looks like you needed a coat and reservations. One caught my eye is a wine/brew and cigar shop on Main. May need to check it out. Thanks for the input

For food north of town you may try Hill Top Cafe or Doss Country Store and they have live music on the weekend. I would take Doss Store for food over Hill Top and the drive into the Doss Valley is very nice. For good steaks in Fredericksburg I would eat at Friedhelm's on west end of town at 290 and 87. Be prepared it is pricey and busy on weekends. Most places have reservations on weekends and are that busy. For BBQ in Fredericksburg I would go to Backwood's BBQ south of town off of 16. Little more drive but might try Mason around the courthouse square...lots of small eating places and bars combos...Lea Lou Coop, Willow Creek Club & Cafe and Square Plate Deli all on the square. For BBQ there is Coopers Original Pit BBQ on 87 on the south end of town by Lowe's Grocery. All of the small town places are busy on weekends and slow service can be the norm with lack people wanting to work in smaller towns.

Can’t say I’ve ever had anything else there but sure have drank a bunch of their peach wine

then we decided there must be donkey urine in the wine because to us it tasted terrible. That sums up pretty much all the wineries/wine tasting venues on 290 east of and around Fbg. Still, they pack 'em in like cord wood.

Me and the wife frequent Fredericksburg. If you like sangria, you must go to Hilmay winery. Hands down best sangria I've ever had. They make it fresh every day. We always stay within walking distance of main st, and always end up at Milagro twenty twelve. Live band every Fri and Sat night, and they are always good. Food at Milagro is edible...but we don't go there to eat.

Oh, and if you want good wine, go to Andreucci Wine room. Wines imported from Italy. Avoid Fat A$$ winery like the plague. Thier stuff is just nasty.

For hill country wines you either need to try their white wines or blended reds. This one has been in business a pretty good while now. https://www.sistercreekvineyards.com/

We'll see, in time, if that ranch road gets ruined (without my help) like all the ones around Fbg. 'Guess I'll just ..."Go west, my son," if it does.

You might be a little early, but some of the farms might have strawberries for the picking. Fun hour and the fruit is delicious. Curiously fun for some reason to me. If you haven't been to Alamo Springs Cafe at the old railroad tunnel state park and have a hamburger, that would be my number 1 thing to put on the list if the weather is cooperative. If you go, keep your bottle caps (that is how you pay out at the end). Their burgers are great.

Becker Winery is awesome even if you're not a wine guy. Great atmosphere and good wine too. Hill Top Cafe west of town has a great vibe. Used to be an underground bar on the main drag in the middle of town, but that was years ago so not sure it's still there. And just hanging at Luckenbach is always fun.

And just hanging at Luckenbach is always fun. Tell all the wannabe musicians "Hey" for me. And don't drive too fast, as in...keep it under 10mph, or else it'll scare the crap outa all the wannabe bikers. (Haven't missed it one little bit.)
