So…. Yes he could have bought it from an individual here in Texas. Still hard to believe it would be easy though. Is there anyone on this site that’s going to sell a gun to someone of middle eastern decent with a UK accent and no ID? Call me a profiler.. but I sure as heck wouldn’t.

I would not sell a gun under that scenario either. (Middle Eastern with no I.D.)

I have muslim friends and coworkers, If they have established citizenship, or have a green card they have legal right to buy a firearm. I have no problem with that.
Some guy hops off a plane in DFW here on a tourist visa isn't getting a gun from me.

Go to Texas Gun Trader and look at all of the guns for sale by individuals at crazy high prices.

Long before the current shortages, I have long suspected these sellers are looking for customers who cannot pass the NICS background check.

How would you know they had a "Tourist Visa"? UK is one of the many countries in the world that is on the VWP (Visa Waiver Program) and coming from UK you don't need a visa

Tourist Visa requires a interview at local US Embassy/Consulat to get granted, ESTA doesn't. Most people have many many stamp in their Passport, a Tourist Visa is a whole page in the Passport

As for the OP's original question, Fox news just reported he bought the handgun on the street.

Define "Street"

Garage sale? Cartel Drug Dealer? Gun Trader?

Or was it the person he knew that dropped him off atthe shelter?

Like I said he still has to be stamped. There for he still went through immigration to enter the country

Question is why was he let him, if it’s true that he was flagged upon entry

Do foreigners have to go through "immigration"? I've flown overseas a lot, and everybody gets off the plane, walks through customs, and sent on their way...even foreigners.

Customs and immigration are 2 different processes and everybody goes through both of them. Immigration is essentially border patrol that conducts a quick interview to determine the purpose of one's trip, how long they're staying, and where. If they deem it necessary, you may need to be interviewed in depth. Customs is responsible for controlling the flow of goods into a country. The country you are entering wants to know what you are bringing in and if what you're bringing in is legal.
