Interesting for sure. If I was shopping for a new concealed carry gun right now, I might consider it...I might even buy it. But considering I already have more than one carry gun, I'm not going to just dump my 9mm and .45 to run out and buy this.

I really like the idea. I will not be in early adopter of it. I think it's a much better idea than a 45 Gap, but I think it needs to be in the right gun. If in something like a shield Plus you could get 12 or 13 rounds in your short mag instead of 10 that would be pretty impressive, especially if it kept the ballistic equivalent with nine it has in the long barrels. I'm afraid however just like the 357 sig, 327 Federal, 45 gap, even the 40 S&w this cartridge will be lackluster in sales and dropped fairly quickly. If you look back over history, people don't really like new handgun cartridges it seems. They don't even really like new rifle cartridges except for the six and a half creedmoor

Another solution without a problem!
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Another solution without a problem! Just like the 6.5 creed In all seriousness, I don’t think it’ll take off. But the capacity advantage may sway people to buy it.

IME the .357 Sig beats handguns to death, as in hairline cracks around the ejection ports, etc. in high round count guns. Add 10,000 PSI to that, and all the small framed, carry oriented guns chambered for this hot rod .30 are going to get pounded into mush. Just my .02, LeonCarr

I'd rather see some old calibers revitalized. 7.62 Tokarev/7.63 Mauser in a modern handgun or PCC would be nice.

Really dumb idea. The only thing it has to offer is additional capacity, but at the cost of greatly more expensive rounds. I mean, if you regularly find yourself in a situation where 10 rds isn't enough but 12 will handle it, I guess this is your cartridge. I have a Shield that is 8+1; if 9 rds and an extra mag doesn't get me out of trouble, then 1) I made some seriously bad choices about my location, and 2) 99% chance I was screwed anyway.

But if .40 sucks now because 9mm performs just as good with more rounds in a mag and less recoil, and this new whiz bang does the same thing as a 9mm but with more rounds in a mag and less recoil, shouldn’t it be the best option for carry?

YAWN! I think the gun industry and ammo industry are just bored and really reaching for a "hit new product"... Like Savage and their new "carry pistol" that is very lack luster. Hoping people will buy these products because it says "XXX" brand on it (and some will).
I'll stick to what I have in 9mm and 10mm...

TC really captures the logic of the "smaller cartridges just as good as bigger". 40 is just as good as 45. 9mm is just as good a 40. Now we are told that 30 Carry is just as good as 9mm. Maybe the problem is Federal is actually listening to our logic. Next thing you know they'll introduce a 20 Carry round. I'm just kidding around with it all this but we shooters tell ourselves all sorts of things. I wish Federal success with this but would rather they concentrate on making more existing ammo and primers.

I don't know about a 20 but I'd sure like to see them straighten the case on the 17 WSM and see what kind of pistol round they come up with. Always wanted a 25 magnum that could push 2000 fps with a 55 grain bullet from a 7 1/2 inch barrel. That would make a fine truck gun for the ranch.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

NOPE NOPE NOPE I can see already this one is doomed. At a time when ammo shortages are a real problem Federal brings out a new cartridge that needs a new gun. I'll just stick with my 9mm & 45.s

I'll just stick with my 9mm & 45.s And that's the thing. You take a firearm with limited action length regardless of caliber, limited barrel length because of purpose, and limited capacity because of weight and physics and there is zero opportunity to do anything ground-breaking. A straight-wall cartridge roughly .75-1" in length and a barrel between 3" and 5" will only allow for a limited ballistic outcome, regardless of caliber. 9mm will be much cheaper to manufacture than this cartridge for a very long time simply due to economies of scale and the current equipment infrastructure.

I'm old and certainly set in my ways but I do try to see things from a different point of view. The super carry just draws a blank. Just don't see where anybody will really be better off with this cartridge. I do agree the 9mm can be a handful in sub compacts though reduced recoil loads are made. But surely the most effective solution for that is the existing 380. We all know the 380 can use some improvement and wouldn't it be nice if Federal had put all that energy into perfecting the 380 cartridge. Federal is not in business to sell guns but they exist to sell ammo. It seems logical that a perfected 380 would sell a lot better than a new and IMO pointless cartridge.

What ballistic problem does this solve that I had no idea existed? More BB’s in the clip and roughly the same ballistics as a 9mm.

You guys know all that ballistic stuff means nothing, most on this forum don’t buy guns for “need”— we buy because we “want and can.” Otherwise we would be like my buddy who owns a single 30-06, a humpback 12 auto 5, and some pistol. Quit kidding me.
