I have a 1754 tracker grizzly, maxed out weight is about 1,600 fully loaded. This is my first boat and I am trying to figure out the right trolling motor thrust in order to pick out the right one. I have read several online "guides" and they are saying 55lbs of thrust is adequate. But as we all know the recommended "should work" doesn't often apply to real world scenarios. I am hunting shallow marshes and tributaries in the bay systems. not doing anything off shore or deep water. any advice or opinions from experience is appreciated.

I had a 55 lb thrust on a bass rig that weigh over 1600 lbs and it had plenty of power. Rig weighed 2605 lbs as it came from dealership, maybe 5 gallons fuel, no tackle, no fishermen. That was the trailer and all but knew what trailer weighed (1000 lbs)

I had a 55lb on my 19' bass boat for years, worked fine. I replaced it with a Minnesota ultrex. If you want a real trolling motor, get an ultrex. My wife said my new trolling motor was worth more than my old 1996 niyro.

I have a 70 on my 21 footer and it does just fine. Upgraded from a 55 that came with it (few year old Motorguide) and it was definitely worth the money.
Life passes most people by while they're busy making grand plans for it. www.ottfamilyjewelry.comGreat prices on chains, bracelets, and rings.
