This season was hard pressed for time in the field with a 9 year old in swim and soccer, a 2.5 year old, and a 6 month old on the ground. However after Saturday afternoon, I think the 2022-23 Season will see more days afield. The 9 year old has decided he is a deer watcher and not wanting to be much of a deer hunter; that is fine amigo - it'll be all about sitting in the blind with you and getting some quality time together enjoying what God gave us. My 2.5 year old however...this kid is ALL about it. Since getting home from my first bow hunt on a hot afternoon in October, all we hear around the house is 'deeeer' 'Daddy deer weeeease' or 'Daddy deeeer hunt'. He has gotten to the point of spotting deer in fields on our road trips before I can - especially because what he knows are cows have suddenly turned into deer (and pretty much every other living beast, except for dogs) this Fall. Saturday afternoon was less than action packed around the house and at 1:30 I got the whim to go sit in a deer blind ahead of the front. I declare to the bride that I think it would be a good afternoon to go sit in the woods and be home by 7:30 and she gives me that dreadful look that roughly translates into "you're gonna go play and leave me here with all 3 boys." Knowing better, I volunteered to take the 9 year old - he wasn't too keen on the idea as he was buried deep into a Lego from Christmas. However, little brother came running around the corner jumping up and down yelling 'Daddy deer wease, daddy deer wease'. Alright, dude, you're up! Momma was a little worried, but packed a spectacular snack bag and we were out of the driveway by 2:30. Here is a photo recap of the second son's first hunt: ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/01/full-21311-330281-heading_out.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/01/full-21311-330282-walking_in.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/01/full-21311-330283-in_the_blind.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/01/full-21311-330284-the_result.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/01/full-21311-330285-last_stop.jpg) We bumped a very solid 8 out of the feeder along with a few of his friends, but about 45 minutes later this cullbuck came in with 7 other deer. It was 63 degrees when we left the driveway; the truck was warning me about ice and saying it was 31 degrees when I locked the gate leaving the ranch. By the time we got to the processor, we were able to see a flake or two of snow. Man, what a great afternoon.

You have hooked that young man on hunting. Will be hard for you to go hunting without taking him in the future. Great memories.

If you find yourself feeling useless, remember it took 20 years, trillions of dollars, and four presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban.
Sometimes the Universe puts you in the same situation again to see if you’re still a dumbass.

Now that is what its all about! Congrats to you both
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Before you can blink, he will be out shooting you and helping you get in the deer stand. Take him every single chance you get. Those memories are worth much more than any deer you may not get because he got excited and scared it off. Much More!

Funny you say that because, I may have whined a little and laughed more when I got confirmation that we blew this guy out as we approached the blind:

To me the first five pictures are much better than the last. He will only be this age once--enjoy every minute of it that you can.
