That's a beauty of a rifle and nice animals too. I have a Mauser-actioned curly maple stocked 243 somewhere if I can find it I'll post up some pics of it.

I went old school last season using my British .303 made in 1918. It was sportorized when I bought it. Still a great shooter. Bolt action on it is so smooth.

Nice choices! I'm taking my Win. Model 70 pre-64 300 H&H this weekend. Can't wait to try it. Taking my FN .270 as my secondary.

Old School is the only school I know.
That 300 without the recoil pad wouldnt be fun to shoot. Awesome gun though. I love pre64s.

I carry different calibers depending on where I’m hunting but I pulled out the the 1990 416 Remington Mag for Saturday’s hunt and loaded some fresh freedom pills. Tracking jobs suck,

416 is more than I want to shoot. My 9.3x62mm is enough punishment.

My old school rifle is a Browning BAR 30/06 with a ghost ring on it. I love that old gun. My Dad hunts with a Marlin lever action 44 mag, and sometimes we use the old school tube fed Ruger 44 carbine.

Nice No.4! One of my bucket list rifles is a No.4 Mk1 (T).

For those that forever debate the term "clip" vs "magazine", I assume that would qualify as a clip.

It has a removeable magazine, but it was not intended to be removed. The rifle has a charger bridge for loading with chargers. As such the magazine can hold two charges of 5 cartridges. I have one of these rifles in my collection, but it is still in the original mummy wrap, so I can't shoot or hunt with it. His No4 is a great choice to hunt with.
I do often pick one different mulsurp rifle from my collection each year. Find or make a hunting load for it. Sight in and learn it's limitations, then hunt with it some days during season. Never really got around to picking one this season, but I might choose one before it's over.

I'm planning on hauling this one down into the pasture and rolling a hog with it.

A Uberti copy of the 1885 Winchester High Wall in .38-55. 265 grains of cast lead in front of 10 grains of Unique...a load I call "Old Painless". Despite its pedestrian velocities compared to modern stuff, it carries well enough as the distances grow. Its current sight setting will pound my 200 yard swinger and yet moving my staff down from "4.5" to "3" puts me dead on at 100.

No one on the place is liable to mistake me for Tom Selleck, but this darling will hold up its end if I do my part!

Mark

Where did you get your sight for that rifle? Have same one but in 45 LC and would like a sight like yours for it. Good looking rig!

Good thread. I am an admirer of nice walnut on a rifle also, but perversely I admire it so much that I put synthetic stocks on rifles that come to me with nice wood in order to make sure it remains nice wood.

A thought crossed my mind at work just the other day and I looked to see if walnut stocks are still available for AR15s...it was kind of novel some years ago. I quickly found a website that showed an image of an AR15 so decked out and I was immediately reminded of why I was not interested back then. Nope, nope.

I like stuff like this:
