Occasionally I hear stories about people finding great bargains on markdown firearms at Walmart but I have never been lucky enough to find one of those bargains.

I walked out of the Abilene KMart in 1969 with a 30-30 and 12ga 870. One box of shells for the rifle, 4 boxes for the shotgun. I also bought a bird vest and a cooler stool. Total cost was right at $200. Still have both weapons, the stool and vest wore out decades ago.

In 1970, I was in El Paso headed to Big Spring, we stopped at a Gibsons in Odessa and I bought everything I needed for a dove hunt that weekend. I bought another 870 a case of shells and other junk that was right at $130

I've seen discontinued models go for 40% off with no markup as some stores do. Employees have access to information that alerts them when a specific model is being discontinued. And although it happens far less often, great deals can be had when Corporate makes the decision to stop selling guns at a specific store. When this happens, it's not unusual to see every gun in the cabinet sold on the day Corporate tells the store to discount them all.

Bought myself a 10-22 and brick of .22LR for a birthday present at WalMart in Bastrop....when it was across the highway in building where Tractor Supply is today sometime in the 70's.....
Still have the Ruger but the brick is long gone.

Bought multiple guns and .22 and shotgun ammo and 3 pellet rifle/pistols from Gibson's in Lockhart when it was on the corner of 183 and 20.
Still have all but the Sheridan Blue Streak but one of my best buddies has it!

You must be old! They haven't sold handguns in a long time and GP100s haven't been $375 for even longer.

That would have been Gibson's Discount Store for my generation. In fact, my parents bought me my first shotgun at Gibson's in the mid-70's.

I remember going to Gibsons during the summer in Wichita Falls so Mom could put our school jeans on layaway.

Yep, WF had two Gibsons and both smelled like fresh popcorn. Good times.

When Dallas Gibson's closed, I bought two new S&W .38 military revolvers with consect... serial #, wood grips with lanyard swivels. Grips had "RCAF" imprinted.
$29.00 each in box.
Also got a single shot 10 ga Mossberg, I think, same price.
Total cost less than $100.
Had one pistol bored out to 38 special by Ray's gunsmith--still use it today'
