Don't think I ever bought a shotgun at Walmart, but I did buy a shotgun and a .22 rifle from Target one day in the early 1980s. And a S&W 1000 at Oshmans around the same time and it was financed through them. Probably the first thing I ever bought on credit. I think I usually got most of my shotgun ammo at Oshmans back then too. Lead nitro mag #6s bought at Oshmans was my go to duck load.

Not at my Walmart. There are shot-shells on the shelves and clay pigeons but rarely a shotgun in the racks.

And these days if you buy a firearm....you have to wait for a manager or other designated person to personally walk you to the door with your purchase.

Company policy for 'safety' I am told. When asked what would keep a person from loading the weapon (with the ammo they just bought) and coming right back IN, you'll be met with a shrug of the shoulders.

I never bought a shotgun at WallyWorld but did buy a .22 semi-auto and a .22 mag rifle there.

I have a Remington 1100 and a Ruger 7mag I bought from Walmart in the 80’s.

My first deer rifle, a Remington Model 700 ADL .270 came from Walmart, a purchase I made back in the late 80's. I've also been extremely pleased with the Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe Sporter .270 that I picked up at Walmart just a few years ago.

I only wish the stores in Texas would stock the same rifles that I've seen on the shelves in other states in terms of quality and quantity.

I still view Walmart pricing on ammo as the lowest price benchmark, with Academy being second.

I remember when they opened the 1st Super Walmart in Denton. Thought it was great - a one stop shop with ammo, groceries and beer all at one place. That place went to crap pretty fast though.

That would have been Gibson's Discount Store for my generation. In fact, my parents bought me my first shotgun at Gibson's in the mid-70's.

Bought my dad a shotgun at Walmart once. Ours usually has a broad selection of shotgun shells in the lead categories. Like many people in Houston need pheasant loads...

I remember going to Gibsons during the summer in Wichita Falls so Mom could put our school jeans on layaway.

I also bought my Remington ADL .270 at Kmart in 1977 for 139.00 on sale. It is still the gun I use today.

Years ago Walmart would sell guns that were in stock for more than a year at 1/2 price. That’s when most of their stores carried a full line of shotguns, rifles and ammunition.

Not that long ago things were simple. I remember in High School we had guns in our trucks so we could go hunting after school. Stupid times these days.

I was stationed at Fort Sill during the early 90s. All my guns were in my parent's place in Georgia and I bought that same express in the article. Still shooting it too.

Some Walmarts still sell rifles and shotguns. In my experience, they're the ones in small towns. Decatur being one example.

The day I turned 21, I walked into the Wal-Mart in Huntsville and bought a Ruger GP100 for 375.00 out the door.

When I lived in Ada Ok in the late 70’s early 80’s the Walmart there had a full sporting goods selection including reloading supplies. I remember Sears, JC Penny, Target, Otasco, and TG&Y all carried firearms.

The last firearm I bought from Walmart was a Smith 66 in Irving Tx in the 90’s. The Walmart here in Crowley has a small selection of firearms (all long guns) and a small selection of ammo. Occasionally I hear stories about people finding great bargains on markdown firearms at Walmart but I have never been lucky enough to find one of those bargains.

I walked out of the Abilene KMart in 1969 with a 30-30 and 12ga 870. One box of shells for the rifle, 4 boxes for the shotgun. I also bought a bird vest and a cooler stool. Total cost was right at $200. Still have both weapons, the stool and vest wore out decades ago.

In 1970, I was in El Paso headed to Big Spring, we stopped at a Gibsons in Odessa and I bought everything I needed for a dove hunt that weekend. I bought another 870 a case of shells and other junk that was right at $130

I've seen discontinued models go for 40% off with no markup as some stores do. Employees have access to information that alerts them when a specific model is being discontinued. And although it happens far less often, great deals can be had when Corporate makes the decision to stop selling guns at a specific store. When this happens, it's not unusual to see every gun in the cabinet sold on the day Corporate tells the store to discount them all.

Bought myself a 10-22 and brick of .22LR for a birthday present at WalMart in Bastrop....when it was across the highway in building where Tractor Supply is today sometime in the 70's.....
Still have the Ruger but the brick is long gone.

Bought multiple guns and .22 and shotgun ammo and 3 pellet rifle/pistols from Gibson's in Lockhart when it was on the corner of 183 and 20.
Still have all but the Sheridan Blue Streak but one of my best buddies has it!

You must be old! They haven't sold handguns in a long time and GP100s haven't been $375 for even longer.

Yep, WF had two Gibsons and both smelled like fresh popcorn. Good times.

When Dallas Gibson's closed, I bought two new S&W .38 military revolvers with consect... serial #, wood grips with lanyard swivels. Grips had "RCAF" imprinted.
$29.00 each in box.
Also got a single shot 10 ga Mossberg, I think, same price.
Total cost less than $100.
Had one pistol bored out to 38 special by Ray's gunsmith--still use it today'
