Weight savings and magnetic retrieval are nice but for some reason I was expecting more performance.

Sierra had polymer cased loaded ammo in their booth at SHOT Show two years ago.... nothing ever showed up in the market so I guess not much interest or advantages

Would be interesting to see their claim of ‘unmatched accuracy’ put to a test.

Wonder how the pressure and heat effects the case and what does it send down the barrel

That’s about the going rate for .308 Win Accubond ammo regardless of manufacturer.

Sounds like not reloadable. If military goes polymer for small arms, nix that supply of fired brass I guess.

There are not many things that make me say "Wow", but this is one of them. True Velocity has done something that is ingenious. I personally know the guy behind the design and development of this technology and have consulted with them on multiple occasions with their ammo. Why is it important? Why is it better?
1) Heat! There is no transfer of heat through a polymer case when fired. When you fire a brass cased round, the powder burns and transfers heat to the brass case while propelling the bullet. The polymer case ejects out of a semi auto cold. And the chamber of the rifle stays cool. There is less wear on a semi auto.
2) More velocity. Since there is no/minimal heat transfer to the polymer case, more of the powders' energy can be used to propel the bullet. Heat is energy. You get more velocity with the polymer case than you do with a brass case with the same pressures. You are able to achieve much higher velocities than normal brass cased ammo.
3) Less weight- The loaded rounds weigh about 30%-40% less than brass cased ammo. Soldiers (or anyone) can carry more ammo than brass cased ammo. Plus, large cargo planes are only about 1/3 full when loaded up with brass cased ammo. The military is able to transport much more polymer cased ammo per shipment than brass cased ammo.
4) Case internal shapes- With a polymer case, you can form and shape the interior of the case to fit the needs of the round and bullet you are shooting.
Their ammo is now spec'd for the Dillon minigun platform. They are also the lead company for the new 6.8 project. The technology and what they are doing is truly ingenious. I think in the next 3,5, 10 years, this will be the direction ammo will be going. And I would absolutely shoot their ammo with full confidence.

Irrelevant for the average hunter. Now we will get seminar's on all the "non-average" hunters around here.

Irrelevant for the average hunter. For the moment, yes. But almost all firearm and ammo developments started with the military and transferred over to the hunter.

My wife and I are utterly fascinated by this True Velocity case. She 's been following it since a guy in a local Dallas rea range, may have been Garland, found like 2 of them, posted it on somehting like Reddit and then the DOD and FBI came knocking to get them. This will probably not affect my personal ife but super cool advancement.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

If this is the company I heard about, the rounds were invented by a friend of a friend.

Cool invention, they'll see some success no doubt...due to some government purchases primarily - the government is always willing to spend some money to try new things; they're always looking for a reason to spend more... will never go mainstream. Military isn't going to be switching the bulk of their ammo to this stuff - that's a pipe dream for this company. They might get another government agency like the FBI on board though. Will see even less traction in the private market. I'd personally buy some just to try them out but that's about it. There would have to be a significant cost savings compared to brass or steel for these to have a chance at becoming anything more than a fad. "Accuracy" is certainly never going to be the driving factor for success of a product like this ... the military doesn't have problems with killing using brass/steel...civilians don't have problems killing using brass/steel ... there's just not enough room for "accuracy" improvements that would really mean anything to anyone. Price is always going to be the #1 driving factor. Can you make and sell it for half the cost of what the current dominate product is? If so, and the product performs just as well, you got a chance. If not, you'll still make some money and carve out a little niche but that's about it.
Again, cool invention but realistically it'll never be a dominate ammunition technology.

What are the barrel lengths of all these rounds? If not the same, or corrected to the same, then they are irrelevant.

I think it’s great technology that will eventually trickle down to the civilian market. If economies of scale ever kick in, there’s a real possibility the process can even become cost competitive.

Poly case does not transfer heat from powder to barrel chamber. ^^^ This. The velocity on the listed 308 Win ammo is purposely loaded at the normal 2650 fps. In their other testing with other ammo designed around certain rifle platforms, they are 100+ fps faster than their brass counter part loaded to the same pressure.

Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense to me. I don’t know enough to argue though so I won’t.
