Wow no help from the knife makers. I think I am just going to get a knife works sharpener.

I've never used one, but the worksharp seems to be a popular one

I’m a sharpening junkie and have tried all of them. Most of them work if you work at and learn about using them. The best I ever found is a 110 volt motor made by Baldor. Make sure it’s the high speed motor. The lower speed ones(cheaper) are almost useless.

Work sharps will work; but you have to be very, very careful. They will knock you tip off quicker than you can blink. As the knife tapers to the end; it runs out of the guide mechanism of the machine. You’re kinda free handing it. You can’t just Willy nillie pull it through. There is another sharpener on you tube that people rave on. Three diamond wheels. Not for a pro, but gets knives very sharp.

Yup on that read the directions, it is very easy to round off the points on knives with a Worksharp. Let off the trigger on it when the point is halfway across the belt it stops quick, if not and you drag it across the flexible belt will round off the point. Video in how to use and stopping the belt to keep from rounding off the point

Being a knife maker, I only free hand like ShaneA.. I've had two work sharps and given both away. They do work if done correctly but too slow for me. I make and sell over 300 knives a year everywhere I can save a few minutes helps me in the long run. One reason I bought a leather sewing machine, cut down the time sewing a pancake sheath from 45 minutes hand stitching to five minutes.
