Looking at the one pic I disagree with 3 being the age........he looks like a rutted down 4-5 year old to me.... It does feel great when a plan comes together. Hopefully it continues to be productive. Here’s another pic wish I had someone with me to take better pics. I had to be very creative to pull these off. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-63835-325770-571ec7ce_f53e_4ef8_a19c_ff3fd7403c6c.jpeg)

Very nice! Congratulations! I hunt in East Texas also and to me it certainly is more challenging from where I used to hunt. But I do like the tall tines on the nocturnal ones and one's other people shoot nearby!

If those are your local genetics based off what appears to be 3.5 year old. You should be able to have great deer, east Texas trophy’s if left alone until 5-6! I hope so my goal is to try and grow me and my boys a great herd. I’m thinking about getting off the lease next year and just focusing on our place. Our place hadn’t been really a hunted in years, it’s actually the place where I started hunting many many many years ago!!! We had a game cam setup out there some years ago and actually had pics of some really nice deer but all the pics were nocturnal. I’ll see if I can find them. Agree with rickym that is a nice young buck no more than 3.5 and will make for some fine dining congrats ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-1274-325827-e_buck_2.jpeg) You did good on the selfie ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-1274-325828-e_buck.jpeg) What a great view! How many yards away is your feeder from your blind and is that pastured just mowed or have you been putting in food plots? If it was me and it is not, I would give up the lease in Buna use that time and money to put in food plots and improve your land. Other questions; Do you have hog problems? if so make sure you put up hog panels around your feeders, I suggest no less than 10 panels per feeder and if you have the room and $ use 12 panels it makes it easy for the deer to jump in and out and allows for more deer inside the pen. Again what a beautiful view

You’re down near where my wife grew up I think. Fred, Texas is her hometown. We will be there around New Years hunting.

Congratulations on a nice deer.
Just curious as to how you decided to pick that location to put up a stand? I'm a firm believer in the old saying that the best time to hunt a new stand is the first time you climb into it.
The location is between a pond on our place and a pretty thick area where I assume they are bedding down. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-63835-325753-258c0153_f7aa_4f00_8d18_d6f2e4d2fd07.jpeg) View out of the right window. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-63835-325754-20fe9a17_e6e8_4940_9e99_fe1820b8e952.jpeg) View from the left window. That looks to be excellent habitat. Deer LOVE 'edge cover' and you have that with the open pasture/forest mix. Looks like you have a decent amount of hardwoods on the property? IF they are Oaks (mast producing) then you should be able to attract a decent herd of deer on (or around) your place. Congratulations on your hunting success.

Again what a beautiful view That pasture was just mowed late October. About the hogs, I've never seen a hog around there and I know there's not many places in Texas that can say that. And Thanks about the land.

Majority of the place is hardwoods of that most of them are oak trees. I plan to put in a food plot and start feeding protein next year.

Great looking buck! Congratulations. Feels great when a new spot produces doesn't it? Looks like a 4 yr old to me.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Congrats on the nice buck! I am north of you in Morris County. This is our first year on the property. Have one showing on the cams similar to yours but he is very nocturnal. Hoping as the rut slows down/stops he might show during daylight hours.
