MODERATOR: Statements of fact.

I saw Rick's empty booth at the Extravaganza in Fort Worth on Friday August 14.

I took a deer head to be mounted and a bobcat to Rick's Outpost in Aubrey back in November 2008. I shot both within 5 seconds of each other (what a story). The shoulder mount was completed in July 2009, but the bobcat hide to be tanned was still out.

Two weeks ago they decided they lost it. I spoke to the owner in person at the shop, and he said they had bobcats in the freezer, but they were not going to check them (I offered to help look for it). They refunded my money--took the easy way out.

In the event my bobcat shows up, I'll update this post.

I can't believe he's still doing taxidermy after selling that land on 380.

I'd be sitting on a beach somewhere.

Sorry to hear that they lost your cat, that sux.

I dont quite get this. This is his second post, and he is attacking this mans buisness. Now I am not saying that he is lieing and I have never worked with Rick's. But when some one post something like this most people want them to have a little more credability. And how do you know it is lost? Because he would not go looking for it? If he really is over nine months out it may just be in the back of the box, and a mistake that it was pushed back. I do not beleive in attacking people, a bad word is spread faster than a hundred good ones.

Rick has done a deer, and a couple of ducks never had any problems with his work. He and Sally have other people that do mounts for them. It's possible one of them liked it and it walked. He made good on the refund, that should be were it ends.

Don't lose people's animals and you won't get attacked. And I was unaware that one was only allowed to tell people that a taxi lost their animal if they have a certain amount of posts on an internet forum.

Regarding Aussie 1's post...It's possible one of them liked it and it walked. He made good on the refund, that should be were it ends.
What does this mean? Since his bobcat skin "walked" and he was paid off makes it OK?...I don't think so. If it were your bobcat that walked, I doubt it be OK with you that you just got your money refunded....just like it didn't happen. Oh well I will just shoot another bobcat and try it again...that is a stupid statement.
And for shane87, what type of credibility are you talking about? I think his post simply stated some facts...such as "Two weeks ago they decided they lost it. I spoke to the owner in person at the shop, and he said they had bobcats in the freezer, but they were not going to check them (I offered to help look for it). They refunded my money--took the easy way out." Sounds to me that he is upset at the circumstances surrounding the loss of his bobcat and lack of cooperation in not wanting to assist him in looking in their freezer for it and just paid him off. I agree with cbump Don't lose people's animals and you won't get attacked. And I was unaware that one was only allowed to tell people that a taxi lost their animal if they have a certain amount of posts on an internet forum.

Thanks cbump....I have been monitoring this forum for awhile and am reluctant to post a comment...however, this one just hit a nerve with me and I felt I had to post a comment. Take care.

Bluebob welcome to the forum. I didn't read any solutions on your behalf. Do you feel that Rick should have maybe given his right testicle? He didn't lose his dog or kid, it's a fricken hide. He did what he could to make good for his customer. I've had a processor lose my order before and they offered to discount my next order and gave back my deposit. I thought that was fair on their part. I didn't cry about it. To say that I doubt it be OK with you that you just got your money refunded....just like it didn't happen.
That is a stupid statement! You have no idea what I'd say.
It's your choice whether you want to use the Taxi in the future. Things happen

It doesn't matter if you have one post or 1 million posts. If someone has a bad experience...post it up!!! To lose an animal, it shows a good deal of retardedness on behalf of the taxidermy shop. Afterall, it is their business and what they are in business to make money from, right?
Since they refunded the deposit, and didn't even bother to go look for the cape again, they pretty much acknowledged that they screwed up. Does that replace your trophy? Fork no. Does that show me that they are a shotty business? Fork yes. And this place is literally right down the road from my house. I'll be damned if I take anything to them.
If you run a business and don't want to lose potential business, don't F-up like this.

Posts like this are what forums are good for...to make people aware. hammer

Thanks for the welcome aussie 1. I feel you are right to a point...but to say since he just got his money back that makes it OK is not correct in my opinion, and everybody has their own opinion on such matters. I feel they just didn't care about their client, and SHOULD have made an attempt to look in their freezers etc. to try and help him out. Seems to me they just paid him off and sent him on his way and this is what upset him. They didn't do what they could for their customer. I think this is the point of the whole matter. As he said "I spoke to the owner in person at the shop, and he said they had bobcats in the freezer, but they were not going to check them (I offered to help look for it)." This does not seem to be a good way to do business. Again, if they had made an honest effort to look in their freezers after admitting they had bobcats in them etc. instead of refusing to even look or help find the missing item, would be different and acceptable. I know I would be upset if this happened to me and feel you would probably also be upset, maybe not. Again, the solution for me would have had them try and help out their customer by making and honest effort to look for the bobcat they lost. That's it, pretty simple and not much more needs to be said as far as I am concerned. I have had game mounted in the past and have never had this issue come up, fortunately.

I dont think the taxi did make it good on the hide . He only refunded his deposit . Since D Day took it to Ricks and put down the required deposit it must have meant something to him . I would have expected more from the taxi than here's your cash back -run along . I know what it takes for me to get to someplace to hunt . There's all the expenses to get there plus finding the time to do it so here is your money back aint going to cut it .
He should have at least offered a very substantial discount if he would bring something else in to mount - or something .
Thanks for posting D Day and Welcome BlueBob .

Everyday I look at my trophies on the wall and recall every detail of the hunt. They might not be trophies in someone else's eyes but to me they are prized possessions. I could not explain how distraught (yes, distraught and all the associated drama) I would be if my taxi told me they had lost it! How do you replace that? Like it has been stated that's their job day in day out how do you lose it? Follow it's path from drop off to tannery to shop...dead animal skins don't just "walk" away. I too would expect a great deal more effort on the taxi's side to make it right.

What some of you may not understand is that the hides are tagged and shipped to the tannery, when the tannery returns the hides they are tagged on the ouside and inside and FROZEN, some of the outside tags always come off in shipment.. In order for the taxi to look for this hide they would effectively have to thaw each and every hide in the freezer risking damage / deterioration of hides other than D-days. I would BET this hide WILL turn up if some people would just have a little patience / understanding. I have done business with Rick's outpost and will continue to do so, Rick and Sally are great people.

And as far as them deciding they want the hide and just took yours, I would bet they can find a hide of a cat that WASN'T shot in the face with a high power rifle if they really wanted a bobcat hide.

Why do they return tanned hides frozen?

Either way it doesn't matter to me what it takes to find someone's hide. It is their job and what we pay them to do.

Shooter75056,

No one has mentioned where on it's body the cat was shot. I did not in my original post. You were either one of the people there when I spoke to the owner, I guess an employee, or he has spoken to you about the situation as a friend.

If you were there, then you witnessed how apathetic the owner was re: the situation. The owner seemed to think it was mis-tagged by an employee, which means someone else got my cat.

The situation could have been handled quite differently by Rick's Outpost. They didn't even respond with a possible explanation after I sent a certified letter as a follow-up.
