Took this very unique 12pt last week. Looks like his G2 was bent back while in velvet. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-68941-324687-2021_buck_a.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-68941-324688-2021_buck_b.jpg)

Great deer! Congrats
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Nice buck. Antlers just grew that way. Though developing antler IS somewhat soft/pliable it won't 'bend' without being irreparably damaged. Typically injuries to forming antler tines result in that tine being truncated. Often that portion will be dark colored. Here is an example of that happening. This buck when in velvet had a G3 that had a piece of that tine (about 3" long) going 90° inward. Later when all the antler was hard and velvet shed, that piece had fallen off and left the truncated G3. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2021/12/full-56101-324778-truncated.jpg)

I have hunted this ranch for about 25 years and I had never seen this before in any buck. Do you think it is a genetic quality? Also, my taxidermist said that this doesnt look like a hill country deer, even though that is what he is. I have suspected for several years now that someone in our area might have brought in some deer from down south as we have seen body weights increase pretty dramatically. It is now not uncommon to have a mature buck field dress over 140 lbs.

Northern Medina is cedar country and Edward's plateau. Big deer have moved northward .

Why have they moved northward? Any ideas? Not as in migratory. The quality has moved northward due to people managing their properties better. Feeding protein, letting deer get some age etc.
