I had a few pieces on 1/4" cable that broke the cable right away. The chains held up better. I have asked the local firemen if I could get some old hose with no luck. I thought the other day maybe recaps from the side of the road might work good. What do you think?

My son is hell on the chains holding mine up. Heck, he has ripped up the thick/wide rubber belting too!

Old fire hose works best of anything I have seen. One misplaced bullet and chains or cable are in two pieces.

strips of old conveyer belt are likely the easiest to get and they work great.
There's a market for used fire hose so I'd doubt much would be found available outside of an inner circle who can skim some off.

I used wide truck tie down straps. They worked real well.

No luck? You asked of you could have some and I told you no problem.
Easiest way to cut fire hose is with a bandsaw.

If you don’t have any luck finding firehose or bailer belts, get a used tire or two.
A sawzall or chop saw works well to cut em.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

That's an idea. I have a pile of it at the place; I hadn't considered that usage.

I used some heavy rebar like 5/8” I had a few pieces that were 1” in diameter
Been hanging for 20 years just make sure you weld it on the back side of the plate with a good 4-6” bead.

Welding to AR 500 is not a good idea. It needs to be preheated to work, and a hot pass. Even then, with enough hits, it is likely to break loose. And the heat can anneal the steel, which puts you back to mild steel hardness.
Fire hose, or bailer belt both work. 1/2" or 5/8" grade 8 bolts, and nylon lock nuts are your friend. Big Fitz taught me lock washers virtually do nothing. 1/2" AR 500 400 yards and less. 500 yards and more, and 3/8" AR 500 is sufficient. And mine have been hit with some very hard hitting bullets many times.

No luck? You asked of you could have some and I told you no problem. But I forgot to get it when I saw you last. I'll text you and maybe meet you at work. Was that before or after you found out he was shooting your bolts and got kicked off Awe heck, I think you guys know that was a joke. The most disrespectful thing I've done out there (that I know of) was leave the paper target stand in front of the 300 rather than behind the berm where I found it.

Seems like some of the wide yellow ratchet strap material would work. For a little white. Shrapnel from bullets is what eats up hangers. That and UV, of course. Chain is a no-go. It will get cut by someone, and then the target is not hanging facing the zero line.

I use a slice or two of bacon and nails. Just shoot the fly's off till the bacon is gone.

I wish I had pic's of the TPost hangers I bought from War Horse Weaponry in Decatur. These are great. Never knocked a target off and I can't see how on earth they would get damaged since the plate is in front of it. It is a set of tapered forks welded together to make one piece that slips about 6" over the top of a t post. It has a hook that fits into the the cut out on the AR500 steel plates he sells. We drove four t posts out to 400 yards and hammered them. You still get the report and see movement.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.
