Nice buck, glad to see that area has some genetics. We have 350 acres about 9 miles West of Jefferson on hwy 49 but don't have bucks like that. I'm jealous
mightyp is my oldest son.
our place is 12 miles west of jefferson on 49
update: the first pic is taking a nap as of this evening. op's brother got him.
Very nice buck. Definitely not the one first pictured... (antlers) are different.
But a good representation of what can be expected of mature bucks, most places in East Texas.
Again, I don't wish to sound like a dissenting voice and I understand most simply want to encourage the OP and be supportive, but honestly (body wise) just about every mature buck I've seen in 35 yrs of hunting East Texas will have a build like the one first depicted.
I just don't see anything 'horse' like or exceptional about it. Has a very nice rack. Open Range (no protein) 'mature' bucks will go 175-200lbs on the hoof. Some larger. Compared to the average 'Hill Country' buck, yes....its a horse.
Hopefully, someone will get a chance at it. It IS a very nice animal. Best of luck to all.
