Winchester 94 is hard to beat. This one was manufactured in 1927.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

That works nicely, my walking around lever action is a Marlin 1894 in 357. Sometimes it is the same in 25-20 for the fun of it.

Wouldn't it be great if these wonderful old firearms could talk to us and tell us where they've been, what they've been used for, and how they were treated over all the years since their manufacture? Lovin' that '94.

Winchester 94 is hard to beat. This one was manufactured in 1927. You call it a "walking around rifle". I call it a companion. Something that can always be with you. Easy to stow and easy to carry. Hard to break and puts critters down. I've had 336's like this but the best was a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag. It had a lightweight 16" and had the perfect mix of capacity, light weight and knockdown power. Of course I sold it and have regretted it since.
"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

I like it a lot. Wish we knew what cartridge it fired.

I bought a slightly used Winchester 94 back 40 years ago. My most memorable kill was a hog running full speed right at me with only four cartridges in the gun, I had to shoot rapid fire as it came closer and closer. Finally anchoring it with my final shot at 30 yards. If I had missed that last shot I guess it would have become a club! Lucas McCain would have been right proud of me!
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

John Browning definitely got it right the first time when he designed the 1894. But then, he seemed to get many of his designs right the first time.

I used the Savage's 1899's, .303 was my favorite, but had 30-30, 32-40, all with 20" barrels, balance is perfect.
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

I like the leverguns, but over time I decided I will take a bolt gun pretty much every time, even for things like walking around guns.

The Marlin 336 is a great carry gun but IMO just doesn't carry as crisply as the Winchester. Perhaps the slight edge given to the Winchester comes from it being created as a saddle rifle. In fact, it's my understanding the flatter forearm (as opposed to that of the Marlin) was meant to make it rest more firmly against a horse when carried in a scabbard.
I was very glad to see the saddle ring return with the current Model 94's made by Miroku.

Looks like a fun gun.....I've got a bunch of lever guns and love them. It looks like someone put the front sight on your's backward. The curved part should face forward....
