I'll be building a new blind (6x8) at my uncle's place at the end of this season. I want it solid and that it will outlast me. Prices have come down but I'll still have to shell out some coin. I was planning on using Smart Siding and it's running about $40 a sheet and I need 7 of them. I ran into this much cheaper panel while doing my research and was wondering if anyone has experience using this panel/siding for a blind build. Thanks!

Thanks. I have not really been considering a fiber cement sheet like Hardi. Do you need to use a siding gun or siding nailer to attach to the 2x4s? I have been more focused on Smart siding because I plan to use screws for the whole build. My main concern is how weather proof that cheaper version would be. So I wanted to see who might have had personal experience with it for a blind, shed, or other outside structure.

You didn't say if it will be elevated or on the ground. If it's more than a few feet up the weight would be a factor as fiber cement is very heavy.

The key for the siding will be the maintenance. As long as you seal it good and keep it painted with a good quality paint, it should outlast you. The plywood/siding blinds that are built with a thin coat of cheap paint slapped on and then put out in the South Texas sun don't last too long if they're not repainted/maintained.

You would better off to spend the extra $70 and go with the SmartSide. It's lighter than Hardi, structural rated, easy to screw or nail and has a 50 year warranty. We've used it on our blinds and cabins and it's held up well over the years.

I have built several loafing sheds using the Hardi-Board and even with the cows rubbing on them they still look and feel new. I use coated decking screws throughout my builds and don't have any issues with moisture migrating to the substrate.

Built several well houses back in the 90s for rental properties and they are all still in great shape.

Screws with washer work best, put it on after you erect it. It works great and it’s wood pecker proof but does have down sides. Weight being on of them and fragile in transport is another.

Thanks for the input fellas. The blind will be elevated. Well, at my age, I can't take it ($$$) with me, so I'll shell out the extra money. I like the looks of the Smart siding and it will be easier than Hardi as far as the building part. I found a place that has discounted T1-11 (about $10 less per sheet). Any thoughts on T1-11 other than the extra hassle of painting it (which I would probably do with the Smart siding too.)?
