Well guys I am not finding much difference in factory 120SST's from Hornady and my Wilson Combat 95 gr TTSX Barnes. I am almost out of SST's so I am switching over to WC and I really dont think I need to adjust my scope any. This pic shows 100 yard shots. The top 3 are Barnes and the bottom 3 are SST's. I made a few shots at 65 yards also. The Barnes is dead on and the SST is 1/2 inch low. Right now most of my shots are 65 yards since I am hunting the woods so even though I expected to readjust my scope I really dont think I should especially since I have shot several pigs here lately and it seems like 60 to 70 yards is about the typical distance. What say you guys?

Pick ONE AMMO TYPE Zero to it. Shoot it.
Two types of ammo, and neither one is zeroed very well, isn't worth a chit.

Leave it. If you are hunting in woods it won't matter. I killed both my deer at 25 yards this season. I was set up in a pop up blind overlooking a trail in timber. I was using a 6.8 as well.

Funny how these are the answers I expected from individuals with different backgrounds. The precision long range guy says to adjust it it is way off and the hunters say leave it. Good enough to hunt the woods. Both are right. If I need to stretch that bullet out past 200 then I do need to zero it in better.

My freezer is to full of wild meat, I don't know how much I need to smoke to make room for what I harvest this year. But yeah, I don't hunt any. It's only part of my LLC and FFL.

Of course you are a hunter but you are a long range shooter as well so your mentality and thinking are different from the non long range shooting hunter. That was my point by saying all are right. Maybe I should have said it that way but I figured you would be able to figure that out on your own.

As I said, neither one is really zeroed. Especially when you look at groups. The group, but they are not grouping on the POA.
In the event of a small aim point, like a brain stem on a doe I frequently do, a tight zero is necessary. Sure those shots will do it, but why allow an error to be in the system when it doesn't have to be?

About 3 clicks with either ammo type would get you dead on.
If you’re taking body shots it’ll be just fine with either one as is.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

why allow an error to be in the system when it doesn't have to be? This is the question I've never got a good answer to from any hunter who thinks his rifle shoots "good enough".

As already said for hunting that’ll work, but I’d really want it zeroed as close to perfectly as possible also, especially since it looks like the WC ammo is going to shoot pretty well in your rifle. I recently had to switch 243 ammo due to lack of availability (and my handloading tools still being in storage) and the new stuff shoots about 1.5” groups so it’s hard to be very picky about a perfect zero.
It also depends on your scope. With a quality scope that tracks like it’s supposed to it’s easy to zero a rifle, but it’s no fun to go through a box of overly expensive ammo chasing zero with a wonky scope. I’ve seen it called the “Leupold Dance”, you dial in that last click or two to center punch the bullseye and POI moves an inch or more…

What I see is one group that is sub MOA and another group that is maybe right at MOA or just a hair over. 5 out of 6 shots are in the 10 ring. This was accomplished with 2 different loads at 100 yards without touching the scope. Yet that isn’t good enough? LOL!
I have hunted with hundreds of people over the years and I can tell you that 99% of them can’t put 5 out of 6 shots in the 10 ring with or single load, much less two. Is it perfect?...no. But it’s better than what 99% of other hunters are going to get out of their rifles with 2 different loads.

It’s not a good answer but it’s typically time. I know so many hunters that wait until the last minute to sight in their rifles. They start running out of ammo at the sight in and call it good enough.

Assuming a quarter MOA scope, I probably put a couple of clicks of up and a click a right and reshoot and I think you'd be just perfect. But I like them to hit about an inch and a half high to 2 in high at 100 and that may not be for you

Why leave room for error, as mentioned pick one ammo and fine tune it for the rifle. Shoot your best all the time close enough isn't good enough for me. It's also a confidence builder for you knowing your gun and ammo are spot on in the sub zero grouping department. I want all my rifles to be able to shoot the wings off a fly at 100 yards. If I can't make it shoot via optics, ammo, upgrades it finds a new home.

I think this is becoming another good debate like HF vs LF. What is good enough when it comes to your POI?
For the record I am not a deer hunter. This is my AR for pig hunting the forests. 1-8 optic which for me means about 100 yards is my limit for feeling like I can make an accurate and ethical shot. Over that my confidence level goes down.
I do have a bolt action that I do believe it needs to be dead on balls accurate. (I admit that I do struggle trying to make that happen)
But This weekend I have a hunt where I will be seeing and shooting pigs from 50 to 80 yards and at 65 yards the 95gr Barnes was dead center. So my AR is absolute dead on for this next hunt. I never go hunt without testing my rifles a day or 2 before at the range. I want to know every time I go where that bullet is going.
Good debate.
GO TRUMP!

He's not gonna take shots in the field like that. So why compound inevitable errors of imperfect shooting conditions on top of avoidable errors of laziness? Just doesn't make any sense

We are talking about less than 100 yard hunting here, not banging steel at 500 yards.

Woods hunting is interesting. It’s usually fast and less than ideal trying to evaluate game and get a clear shot between trees. It all happens in few seconds. Actually getting a good shot off in time before the window closes is difficult.
It takes some getting used too.

I highly doubt moving the POA a half inch is going to have any difference when he’s shooting at something the size of a volleyball at 60 yards Some of you guys crack me up.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.
