My 16 year old son and I were fortunate enough to draw a spot on the Palo Duro Exotic Aoudad hunt. Does anyone have any pointers or insight in regards to this hunt? Should be an awesome father and son hunt.

My ranch is on the Caprock Canyon side and below are some tips I find useful: -have good glass with you and something to support your Binos or Monocular while you glass as you need to put hours in while glassing -bring a high caliber rifle (shots can be long distance) -look for the red berries on cedar bushes (they love them and will flock to those areas) -auodad can literally be there one day and gone the next or two or three days be prepared to sit and be patient (have a sitting pad) -they are very hard to see stationary or at a distance -they see EVERYTHING, their eyesight is uncanny. Camouflage yourself, limit your movements, don’t silhouette yourselves, hunt from the canyon rims and be ready for them to peak up over a ridge at any moment

Good stuff ^. One thing I’ll add is that in the morning, they tend to be on the side of the hill that’s out of the wind. Wind out of the west, look on the east side. And when the sun comes up and starts hitting their backs, they’ll start to stand up.

Grats on the drawing! I’ve been trying for years to do this hunt. How many points did you have?

It's a western style hunt. Get high, glass, make a move. Good boots, good optics.
Any specific questions you have feel free to pm me.

Got drawn for this hunt years ago. Get in shape! This a Very physically demanding hunt. We hunted compartment 5 the first day. It was 11 degrees with a sustained 40 mph wind. I found a shed deer antler that I later abandoned because I wasn’t going to carry it out of that hole! Beautiful country. We stayed in the cabins at the state park. Best of luck to you!

Just tuned back in and would like to thank all for taking the time to provide insight and tips. MUCH APPRECIATED! I expect a demanding hunt and first time on a western style hunt. I'll reach out soon to you guys who have more experience on this type of hunt. Any more insight, please keep it coming. Has anyone specifically hunted this Palo Duro Draw Hunt?
