Hitch hoist, absolutely. I never leave camp without it. Also doubles as a skinning rack.

Free shipping and good price. I’ve had a Monarch brand for over a decade but I think they’re out of business. This one is rated 400 lbs. Sheels receiver gambrel liftIt's what I have and it works great. The top section rotates so that you can easily lower the animal or whatever you're hauling onto the tail gate. The length of the foot section that rests on the ground, as well as the top section that determines height are both adjustable. And not to be overlooked, there are groves at the top to keep the gambrel in place so the animal doesn't twist during skinning and cleaning. This is not a feature you'll find on all products like it.

I put a small electric wench near the cab of my Taco. Roll out the cable, connect to animal and guide it while pushing a button. The War Department tends to frown upon me having a wench...anywhere...electric or other wise.

This might be genius. I could just bolt this to the bed and always have it there. Just get the adapter, remove handle and work it with a drill????? Yeppers, it will certainly work. These are the ones I use on the feeders that we build, with a 25' 1/4" cable. American made quality winch, I've been real pleased with them. My only suggestion is whenever you are loading a heavy animal make sure your cordless drill is in Low (1 speed). Running the cable out on High is fine, and quick. Low to load, even with a brushless motor. I smoked 1 drill going up in High on a 350lb feeder. Bought a brushless after that and works great, but I don't like pushing too hard. Low speed is plenty fast to load an animal. Thanks for this info. Think I'm going to incorporate that gear winch with a homemade skinning pole that fits into the receive of my truck.

Hitch Hoist is the way to go. This what I use, to load and clean deer. Or anything else that I need to put in bed - from generators to filled coolers

I was going to say just get a boat winch and mount it in the bed

I was going to say just get a boat winch and mount it in the bed I checked my truck bed today. It already has some holes in it. Think it will be an easy mount. Then I will just need to take a board and drill.

absent of any mechanical lift assistance, i've had luck that if i can get the head (of a buck) or hind leg of a doe up as high as the tailgate and tie it there (or have someone hold it there), that i can then myself get up in the bed of the truck and grab on and pull/drag the animal up over the tailgate and onto the truck. its easier than trying to lift the whole thing. I've never done this completely by myself but i've done it when i've hunted with the wife or the kids and i wasn't getting a lot of lift assistance. hogs are too short-legged, it doesn't work well on them, you have to lift a lot of the animal to get it to reach the tailgate.

Non lifted pickups make it a lot easier! A 4x4 3/4 ton+ pickup on 35+ inch tires gets to be more like power lifting... but you know them tires and lifts aint about practicality in the first place

Dad used an aluminum ladder, he would lay the ladder on the ground next to the deer, move it on top of the ladder and secure it. Then he would lift one end onto the edge of the tailgate then move to the back end and lift and shove. Worked really well. Recently I started hunting solo and I have gotten to the age to where I can’t “This is Sparta” lift deer into the truck anymore so I built me a “dead sled” out of scrap lumber I had laying around. Looked great to me, super sturdy, a little heavy but not too bad (I thought). Well, I learned Sunday morning that it was a DUMB idea! Sure it was sturdy and all but it probably weighs 35-40 lbs by itself and then add a 150 lb buck on top of that ……. yeah I am looking for a used aluminum ladder now lol

If your anywhere close to me shoot me a pm and I’ll gladly help you build a receiver hitch hoist to solve your problems, I have one I use at times and i also have an ATV contraption I used for years loading dead critters by myself I’ll donate to a deserving soul in need.

Get a receiver hitch “poacher” rack. Much easier to transport animals

I use one of those bumper hitch winches. It is heavy duty and breaks up into 2 pieces. I got mine from a fellow THF member. He builds a quality product and it was very reasonably priced. It's been years since I got it so I don't remember his name. He lives in Georgetown.

I loaded a doe alone today. Easier than buck.
Hadn’t had a chance to get the winch yet. I like the thought of bolting it on during season and using drill to work The winch.

Deer aren't too bad to load alone. Tie a line around the antlers and use a sheet of 3/4 plywood as a ramp and you can just pull them up. If you want to try something hard, load a bear by yourself into the back of a truck. There really isn't anything to get ahold of on a bear.

Like big dead pigs, especially when wet and muddy by yourself. I threw my back out several times, which caused me to miss work. I lived upside down on that inversion table eating muscle relaxers and Celebrex. Much easier to work smart.

Easiest way is to carry an aluminum stepladder with you to the lease. You can carry it to where you shot the deer, load deer on it and drag it back to the truck with a rope tied to the legs. Then put the tailgate down and lift one end up and set on tailgate and push from the other end and it slides right into the truck. As I got older this worked even better with no straining at all. I got to the place where I would just leave the aluminum ladder in the woods close to my feeder for future use. Never lost a ladder either!!

Some friends have a ranch in South Texas and they have one of the front end baskets on each mule. You can lower it to the ground and then drag deer onto it, winch it back up. Another friend has built these on his mules. He as a brace that goes up under the front rail that supports it when lifting a deer.
