Looking for an overnight trip idea from the dfw/ etx area. Not broken bow, just went there. No casino. Probably no more than a 4 or maybe 5 hour drive one way.

Taking vacation myself next week and idea of hill country can have issues with place to stay on weekends. Not many options in Bandera but week days there is places to stay, week end days room prices are different also in any area. I was looking at hill country but I'm just not sure what direction I am feeling. I am real burnt out...last time I have gone out of town was Lubbock back in April and that was overnight trip. Everybody tells me to go hunting...time line and price put that out of the question.

Seems like Arkansas.

Now, I have never been to Branson. But here they decorate nice for Christmas.

Hot Spring was not much. I’d go to Fredericksburg, which is where we are going on Wednesday. Drink a little wine and watch the wives shop for worthless stuff. And then more wine…

Jefferson Texas is a quaint town. Lots of bed and breakfasts and some pretty good restaurants .

Who’s going? Lot of options but depends if it is just you, you and the Mrs, or the whole family with kids.

Henderson, TX next weekend on the 13th is the annual Sugar Cane Syrup festival. Antique cars, tractors, cooking sugar cane syrup, But it's Saturday only. Lots of Christmas stuff to buy. Unfortunately, I can't make it this year, but I love to go.

Just got back from Hot Springs a couple of hours ago. Second trip there this year, third overall. I highly recommend it if it’s just you and her. Lots of touristy shopping, restaurants, and bars if you wish. A lot of history and parks. Beautiful lakes. Condo on lake Hamilton the first time, nice hotel walking distance from the strip the second time, and the Arlington hotel this time. Don’t get a “historic” room at the Arlington, that’s code for old and nothing works, they do have very nice accommodations there though plus there’s a spa on the third floor. My wife likes this trip better than I do but I must say it’s a nice town with a mature crowd. You can read that as old if you want to. It’s definitely a 40 and up crowd.

Jefferson is a nice one day trip. Half the price, half the distance but still fun. Not even a 1/10th of the things to do as in Hot Springs though. We’ve totaled 13 days in Hot Springs and still checking out a few new things each time.

Find & call Jeff Lyle at Lake Texoma for a memory trip fishing for Stripers on Lake Texoma. Jeff's got cabins to rent if you want that roughing it kind of deal of up and at'em ar Dawn30 and is one of the best striper guides I ever ran onto in my 11 years living around the corner from the Elks Club property overlooking Little Mineral Arm. Good eats at Tanglewood that overlooks the 7-800 slip HighPort marina and around the corner from the Tanglewood hotel that overlooks the marina . Used to have a live band on the weekends too at the big hotel and at GranPappy's Marina restaurant overlooking Little Mineral.

Not toooo far and a totally different atmosphere. BTDT and will never forget the many many memories.
FWIW Lake Texoma is 89,000 acres and the channel is over 35 miles long, with Oklahoma's Casino's with in a 45 minute drive, & Sherman Denison 30/45 minutes to the south east and ton's of Antique Shop's , which is where we got the idea of what we do now days to keep us busy 6-7 days a week here in Dogwood City. The US Federal Hagarman Goose Refuge is 11,000+ acres and in the fall/winter season the drive thru the goose feeding pastures 50' off the road are a blast when they fly 100' over you by the 100's.

Ended up going to Austin. Toured the state capitol building, checked out St Mary's cathedral, visited Hamilton pool, and a couple other near spots. Was a pretty nice trip.
