why is every one going crazy for the high power

prob due Springfield Armory just released their version at $699 retail....supposedly improved the original design and its half of what an original costs.

It is a firearm designed by a genius. Browning stopped making them a while ago, and people want what they can't have. Springfield just started making them, and a bunch of people will probably buy them. In a few years, they probably won't be as popular.

They are nice shooting firearms too. Too heavy for regular carry IMO, but nice firearms just the same.

It's a nostalgia thing. They are a very comfortable and accurate pistol to shoot. I carried an Israeli (Bulgarian) hi-power for years and never felt under-gunned. I did beat it up by running a lot of UZI ammo thru it though. I would probably buy another one if the price was right.

Given the extra capacity, it's a better option than a 1911 9mm.

I like the 1911and Hi Power, especially for nostalgia. In my humble opinion, the CZ 75 is the king of the non polymer 9mms.

I prefer a good 9mm Hi-Power over any 1911 produced now or in the past. Developed that opinion several decades before Springfield ever thought about producing one. The new SA-35's offer two things that no other Hi-Power clone has ever offered. No magazine disconnect and a 15 round mag with out changing the grip internals. More capacity and a better trigger.

Better sights too. I have an old one. Sights are tiny.

I like the smaller sights on the old pistols, I always seemed to shoot them better. My old 3 screw Ruger Blackhawks all have narrower sights and I definitely shoot them better than my newer ones with the broad front blade and wide read combat sights made today.

I remember when I was really young hearing all the older guys talk guns. To them the HiPower was "The pistol to have"
It was always 1911 is a great gun but that HiPower is the one to get.
Fast Forward a bunch of years I have had several of them and they have all been exceptional.
Yes the design is dated and its a bit heavy and its still a single action ....Bla Bla
My HiPowers still shoot as good as my finest pistols.
I used one for my CC class and everyone wanted to shoot it....A nice pistol, and I'm sure it will be for a long time
John Browning's designs are still some of the best (and most copied ) EVER!

To answer the OP you could look in the High Power topic from last week for more answers regarding the new one by Springfield specifically.

I've got a CZ-75 and while I like it and some of the options it offers I can't put it on the same level as a Hi-Power. While the CZ-75 is about as close as you can get to a double action Hi-Power, there's quite a difference in length, height and width, the CZ is just a larger heavier pistol all the way around. The Increased grip size and length from the web of the thumb to the trigger is also increased causing some to have to reach around the pistol, while I fall comfortably behind the trigger on a Hi-Power. The down side of a Hi-Power compared to the CZ-75 is a lack of double action, lower mag capacity and the Hi-Power having a mag disconnect which not only keeps one from freely dropping a mag but also influences the trigger pull itself. Springfield removed the two biggest complaints Hi-Power lovers had with the original design without changing any dimensions of the original design. Plus side is the new 15 round mag's will work in the older Hi-Powers and still sit flush.

As far as being the King of non polymer 9mm's I can't agree, maybe King of double action non polymers but it would have to unseat the SIG-226 and I don't have enough time behind the CZ-75 to make that determination yet. It does have a head start with the cocked and locked option.

It’s just my opinion. Sounds we we both collect these older classic pistols. I like the 226. I picked up an old West German model. Most interesting designs I picked up was the HK P7 and Walter P5. Picked all these up as police trade ins when they were cheap. Amazing how much they increase in value.
