So, as I'm standing in line to buy some Smartwool items at REI, and, trying to avert my eyes from the young thing in front of me (skin-tight exercise pants with a spaghetti-strap back, and a sheer wrap over a little bit of it, with stick-on eyelashes and a cap. Gimme a break, she was there to be seen!), I noticed the latest REI mission statement posted under the counter top. Something about "equitable access" to the outdoors??? Are they implying certain minorities don't have the intelligence to check out their local resources and figure out how to go outside the city and walk? Hike? And camp? How condescending! Of course, there was a website listed where you can donate. Bastards.

It is actually fun to go in there to buy light weight gear, wool socks, etc. and when they ask "where are you going hiking" let them know you are going hunting. Can be quite entertaining.

Just tell them you are an Equal Opportunity hunter.

I used to really like REI and they got a fair sum of my money until they came out publicly against guns etc. I don’t understand why any company feels to need to make any statement for or against anything. Keep your mouth shut and you alienate nobody.

I did often make fun of the customers, either serious granola people or city folks looking for an outfit to walk around white rock lake once.

Best place I know of to guy buy hiking equipment. Especially boots and packs.

There are millions of acres of public land here in the state. Are they talking about going out to one of the many national forests or state parks here, walking around and sleeping in the woods?
