Hiking around getting ready for rifle season and ran across this piece. I’ve never found one this big.

I have no idea what kind of wood it is. There is so much drift wood around here, I wasn't sure if it was petrified until I picked it up.

Might be cool to cut that in half and polish it out.

Nice ntxtrapper I have it all over on one of my places and have only found 2 pieces larger than that. There's about 10 more pieces of it there, but I could only carry the biggest one. It was up on a rocky point where I've found several flint arrow heads. I will get the rest of it over the next few days.

That stuff is all over our property in Freestone County. A little research told me ours is palm wood, between 60-80 million yrs old. I have found some nice size chunks of it, a few tree trunks still largely intact but they break up when digging them up. The house built from recycled box cars that my grandfather was born and raised in used petrified wood for the piers. We'll get some nice chunks out of that when we clean up the old home site.
I see people freak out when they find a hand sized piece of petrified wood, I grew up finding it everywhere on the property so it's never been a big deal to see it.

I thought this thread was about Bill or Buzz I had a friend up in Oklahoma who had a motel sided mostly by petrified wood . There's a place that used to be an old gas station, then a pool hall just outside Glen rose, that is made of local petrified wood. It's pretty awesome....Nice find, Ntxtrapper.
