Still my favorite and I’m trying to buy another one right now.
One things for certain, pick a caliber and you’ll find enthusiast. I recently picked up a pair of 257 Roberts which to most is a footnote in history and found it has a strong following. Now if I can just make the Ruger shoot as well as the Remington I’ll be happy. Man I’m jealous! I’ve been jonesing for a Remington 700 classic or a Ruger 77 tang or Hawkeye for a long while now. Is your Ruger a tang safety or a Hawkeye? Mine is the Mk II, it was between the tang safety and the Hawkeye. Flat bolt on the right. The other in the picture is the Remington 700 in .257. I got them as a pair.

I really like mine. I have only used it for deer hunting using 140 grain Barnes TSX or Nosler Partition bullets in Federal ammo. I want to try the Hornady 150 grain Hunter ELX and cannot find ammo. It fact, I can't seem to find the Federal loads either.

Working up a new load with the 162 AMX ( all out of 162 ELDX) and Shooters World Precision. Varget is hard to come by also....

I think it's making a comeback in popularity. I have a lot of fellow shooters ask about mine at the range. Mostly, they're surprised you can get an AR-308 in 7-08.
I'm not an expert, but it seems like the caliber is inherently accurate. Various combinations I use result in sub 1/2 moa groups. My top two loads are 43.5 grains of Big Game (.3 moa) with a 140 Nosler BT, and 40.2 grains of CFE 223 with a 160 Sierra Gameking BTHP (.4 moa).

I like all the rounds based on the 308 Win. The 7-08 is best of them for longer range.

Love the 7-08 as a whitetail cartridge. I load 140 gamekings with Varget. It works well enough to stay with it.

I was just thinking where it outclasses the other 308 rounds. I agree. Compared to .243 Win, .260 Rem, and .308 Win I pick the 7mm-08. Although the .260 Rem with hand loads of 140's is also a fine cartridge. It could have been what the 6.5 Creedmoor is now if Remington was smarter about it.

What is the best Hornady bullet for 7-08 long range target shooting? And what powder goes best with it?
My plan is to rebarrel my Tikka CTR with a bartlein 7-08 when my 6.5CM factory barrel is shot out. Now that I have my own range at home, hopefully I'll start making quicker progress in ending the factory barrel's life. I'm about 1200 rounds in right now if I recall.

Few years ago Academy had the Stevens on sale for $179.00. Me and a buddy bought a 7-08 and my brother bought a 270 the only two calibers they had. We all are kicking our butts for just buying one cause they are some good shooting guns. Had mine fully camoed and that cost more than the gun.

I got a 7-08 a LONG time ago and it became one of my favorites, immediately.
I had JG do a little work on it when I upgraded the barrel to a 7-08AI.
7-08AI is the only thing better than a 7-08 for a short action, IMO...although I have developed some incredible loads with my 6.5CM

I like speed so I prefer the lighter bullets 120-140 is the wheel house for my 7-08's. If I was to shoot 160's regularly, I'd move to a short mag of some sort.
But 7-08 is a stone cold killer when it comes to a hunting round.

I’m likely going to branch out of my “one gun” mentality and get/build a 708 or 708ai. I’ll be asking for advice on which. When I start thinking about bullet weights I’ll get jgraider an fireman on a 3 way call to help me decide……
