I have to ship a gun and since I haven’t shipped a gun in like never whats the best way to do this? I’m assuming the regular box needs to go inside another box so the obvious signs of a gun are hidden correct? Does it need to be signed for? I need to ask him on that one I guess but since I’ve never shipped a gun I’d really like him to get it and I’m sure he would as well so someone school me on shipping this thing please.

It's been at least 15 years since I sent one anywhere, and it was sent to the factory. I can tell you that you need to bubble wrap it well and you need a good block of styrofoam for the muzzle and butt ends. Good quality tape, not tape like for Christmas wrapping, not duct tape either After it's wrapped and taped shake the hooey out of it and make sure it doesn't move around in the box. Pack it as if the people handling it will play javelin toss with it
Good Luck

I shipped one recently in a hard case with locks. UPS didn’t ask me to open it, just to verbally confirm that there was no ammo being shipped. Long guns person to person in Texas is legal. The post office will not do it though. UPS will. I don’t know who else. If it’s a good case and you want it back they can ship it back empty. Post office will do that for around $20.

The only way I have shipped them is USPS. No markings on the outside of the box that suggests it is a firearm. Never had any problems.

Good advice. Assuming a long gun, pack well and take to USPS. Shipped 3-4 this year with no issues.

USPS: Long guns only (handguns can be shipped by FFL dealers).
UPS & FedEx: must be shipped at Customer Counter (not UPS Store/FedEx Office stores). Handguns (via Next Day Air) and long guns (Ground or Express) and can be shipped by non-FFL; you must disclose contents.
If shipping to another Texas resident, you can ship handguns and long guns without an FFL.
Pack well, and secure the box per shipper's requirements.

Is it being shipped within the state of Texas? if yes... than you can ship it USPS.

I can tell you this much, almost everything I touched when I worked at the UPS distribution center was marked “fragile”. No one cares if the box is marked fragile, they treat everything the same.
If it is a gun you care much about would bubble wrap it,get a cheap hard case, and still add extra padding to muzzle, but, optics, and or sights and pack that in a box with enough support it will not move.
If it is a sale I would insure for double the value so you can both be happy if it’s lost or destroyed.

This is from the USPS Manual last time I shipped a shotgun in Texas, print this out and take to USPS next time you ship. Will save a lot of time and frustration.

This ^^^
Just shipped a scary black rifle long gun to an FFL in Florida via Frisco USPS. NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER!!!
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.
